I can not see entire posts, adds on right are over top of 1/3 of the post. Tried to PM Eikon about it, do not see how to PM anymore. Nobody likes change, but I am not liking new look at all at this point!

Yeah me too, I'm having the same problem. I didn't want to complain but I think this new format blows. I find myself not hitting the site as often and when I do not staying very long.

I'm an IT professional that deals with new technology all the time but sometimes change simply for the sake of change is not the answer. I wonder what added benefits we have now? PM? I always liked this site for its simplicity. Oh well...

I'm posting this in a thread to see if anyone is addressing this. I don't have the problem and was the first I'd heard of it. Might be the browser you're using or something. I"ll see.

This was not change for the sake of change to get crappy PM's. We were pretty much forced to a new software with very limited time to make the change.

Do a screen print and email it to myself or Greg so we can see what you are seeing. Also, what browser and OS are you using?

Windows 7 and IE8. It appears to be intermittent but basically it's text superimposed on top of other text in the upper left corner. I'll do a screen print if I can replicate it. Thanks.

My "fix" for increasing screen real estate is to reduce the font size that my browser renders. I know this will work on Win 7/FF3.6.3, just hold down control and scroll your mouse wheel to change format size.

But everyone should just hang tight, we're still in the middle of getting everything streamlined, so there are bound to be hiccups from time to time, especially with older format threads.

And CMKelly, if you want to read up on some of the new benefits of the new setup, Greg has a great post in Gen Chat on what the new boards are doing for the backend.

If you hit control + it will increase the size of everything in your browser... . Control and - (minus) will do the opposite. That should help.

This software change was definitely not just for the heck of it. The old forum software wasn't able to keep up with the size of NICO any longer. We were getting no support from the hosting service and no upgrades to keep the software improving to keep up.

I know change isn't always fun, but give it a little time and I think you'll learn to love the new software.

PM should work just fine. I don't show any new PM's.

You guys can always email anytime... eikond at gmail.com or seth at nicoclub.com

Just certain threads or all threads? There are some threads where quoting has caused similar issues and we are fixing them when we come upon them. If it's just certain threads then please list them here.

After about an hour of browsing, it really isn't all that bad. The only thing I have to complain about is that I had to relog back in and I couldnt remember the password because its been like 2 years since i actually had to type it in lol. I find the user panel on the right side to be fairly convenient. The PM seems fairly nice, you have to make sure your able to recieve them though

I can't fix it if you can't replicate it...

Thanks for jumping the gun, CM.

You find someone that can do what we've done in less than 48 hours and I'll hand the site over to them and walk away.

Weird!! I clicked on that thread Bill.. It was really bizarre, Your username was transposed over the text of the post.. really strange. Somehow the format got corrupted or something because things were definitely out of place.

I edited your first post (didn't actually change anything, just clicked on edit post, then hit save) and it resaved itself, and it appears to be formatted correctly now.

Can you check it again real quick and tell me if you agree that it is now fixed?

Even thought the title of this thread is a little misleading, there is some good info in it from Adam61199.. about replacing the rear window. has-anyone-replaced-their-top-on-their-own-t230855.html

Thanks again Seth, that is exactly the thread I was looking for!!!! How the heck did you remember that title?

Back on the subject of the new format, I found out we now have to go into our profiles and allow users to PM us for the PM button to appear under our names.

Glad you found what you needed! I remembered that we had a thread like that in the sticky, just couldn't remember which one it was. The thread title is a little off, but it was listed under rear window info, so that's how I tracked it down.

Good info on the PM feature... we're still learning tons about all the new features and functions of the new software. It's a little disconcerting at first, but once you get used to the changes, you'll find that it's awesome!!! I am loving the new forum software!

haha.. You're right, I didn't have that set properly... I had been getting PM's, but from moderators, who apparently can send you PM's regardless of your options, so I thought it was set properly..

Now it is!. Thanks Bill!

You can press the print Screen button on your keyboard and then paste into a graphics program (MSpaint may even work). If you click on my username you should see a link to send me an email. I also have PM's enabled as well.

There is no link to email in your profile, or mine for that matter. Maybe the mods have it, but I don't. Perhaps the email feature is something else that needs turned on. I am admin at another site, and when we changed operating systems, I had to create a second screen name without mod/admin privlidges to be able to see what the membership saw. Also seeing a lot of sigs being cut off, including yours. Is it possible to shrink the bar on the right to about half its size???? One last thing I am seeing as of now is that there is no longer any indication as to if a user is on line or not in the threads. Here is what I see in your profile:

I do use an alias to check things out, just had not considered the email issue. I'll add that to the list. I just realized the email radio button in the profile is to allow Admins to send emails. There should be an option to allow anyone to send emails. PM's do work tho :)

also....

I'm told the "online" radio indicator takes a lot of system cache to maintain and additional server load each time a thread is opened as it has to query the database each time to see who is online, so it won't be added. The right-hand column is about as small as it can get right now. Old NICO was a tad wider and would cut off right-hand content for those running 1024w or less. Greg made the call to set the site for 1024w which is causing the cutoff issue with images for those with low resolution. From a statistical perspective, this should only effect 17% of members who are running 1024x768 resolution and the 1% still running 800x600. Not optimal for all but it was the direction taken at the time.

Ah, I am a bit older and don't see as well as I used to, so I do use 1024x768. While I still feel the right bar is way too wide, I guess I have no choice but to learn to live with it.

You only have 7 years on me :)

Since I turned 40 it's been all downhill :(

On my larger monitor I simply use CTRL +/- to adjust the size for me to be able to read. Does not help when you have a smaller monitor tho as it cuts off the images.

After a couple days use my only complaint is that the add bar on the right hand side is too large, VERY distracting and intrusive. If it could be reduced by 1/2 or even 1/3 things would be peachy in my world!

I tried to reply to this post and got an SQL error - too many connections (1040). I can email you screen shot if you like.

Anyway, I'm sorry I pointed out a problem I was having. Perhaps a post about the change and benefits of the new application. Hitman, your reply to me seemed a little over the top. :wtf2:
