The sticky says to make them face towards the wheel but does it really matter what direction the dial faces?

it doesn't make a difference to the units themselves, but if they're facing the wheels, you have to take the wheels off to adjust them. if they're facing eachother, you don't

the bottom mount of the shock has a taper on one side. If you match up the taper to the taper on the car's shock mount, it forces you to face the dials inward. If you don't match the tapers, well, lets just say that's not the best idea. See your FSM for detailed pictures.

So it should force them inward towards the car? The real reason I ask is because I have them facing inward towards the car and about a week after the install I was doing something under the car and noticed a pile of black powder which looked like it was coming from the bottom of my struts. This was my first shock install so does that happen normally? Do I have a problem on my hands? I'm just kinda worried and don't like doing a half a$$ed job. Did I do something wrong? Oh if it makes any difference I havn't been driving the car, it doesn't have the engine in it yet.

uhm...I thought the knobs were supposed to face outwards...I can still adjust them w/ the wheels on, just a tight fit...

Mine is facing outwards, I had a shop install those and I assume they've done it right. if somebody can provide me with some official info that states that those should be inward, I'll go harrass the shop.

MOTOP, I dont have any official info, but im about 99% sure that the dials are supposed to face towards the differential.

I just checked with KYB and yes, they are designed to face inboard so you don't have to reach between the wheel/tire and the damper. There is a slight taper to the lower mount that should be matched. Schyan is 100% correct.

Damn, they're backwards....Is it going to hurt anything if mine are backwards? Maybe upset the camber??

yep once again they're inward.. haha... it kinda sucks cause theyre tough to get at to adjust- especially the left side cause you gotta make sure you dont get burnt by the exhaust, but you gotta match that taper on there so I guess thats just how it is.
