I need helps with adjusting the timming. My timming belt is still stock, last night I open the cover and feel that the timming belt is not very tight and I feel the car has a slow response. I am wondering if any one who done adjusting timming before could help me with any information. thankyou

timing belt shouldnt be extremely tight should have some play and i was reading on rb20det.com (i think) that if u reset your ecu your car will adjust timing acordinly to mods and stuff but thats just the cas timing the rest you may wanna check with fsm and see the slackness in the belt first cause two tight and it will snap

Hey... an RB in Madison.. outstanding.

grab the timing belt between the intake cam and the tensioner on the way down and turn the belt sideways. You should be able to turn it about 45 degrees.

That I learned from Rob... the guy who owns RIPS in New Zealand.

check the thread about FSM's. you should be able to AIM a guy named spazz on NICO. He has them saved and should be able to get you the pages you need from the service manual.

First... to reset the ECU... disconnect the battery terminals for a few hours. The lack of electricity will reset the ecu.

Second.. nothing happens if you rotate the belt 45 degrees. It is just a test of how tight/loose the belt is. DON"T Rotate the belt like the engine does. just grab the belt between your thumb and finger and twist it. It should twist about 45 degrees or so. If it's too tight you won't be able to twist it very far. If it's too loose, you will be able to twist it more that than.
