I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to how to get the headlights for a 1989 240sx, to rise at the rate you want it. In other words, how to adjust the headlights hight from inside your car, without having to turn the top of the headlight motor each time. I know there is a company pivot that makes a unit that does this, but i wanna try and do it myself (and save money :) )Thus far ive figured a way but it is not too precise. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

you can cut a wire in your dash that makes you be able to stop your headlights as they are going down, but on most, the headlights do not stop evenly so you have to fine-adjust it with the motors anyway

Which wire are you refering too, is it the brown wire that supplies the +12V when the headlights are going up, and then you put a switch intermediate to that? Do you have any suggestions as to what to search for because anything pertaining to sleepy eye, or adjsutable headlights returns no relevant results.

Pop out the headlight control button on the dash and cut the brown wire. Turn your headlights on with the button in. Notice the headlights stay up. Now push the button again and get ready to press it yet one more time as the lights drop to your selected height. Bada bing.

i'll definetly try that and see if i have better luck with that appraoch. Currently the way i have my setup is with a toggle switch that is connected throught the 25A fuse that controls the headlights. One end of the wire connects to the + terminal of the fuse box, which is then connected to an inline fuse holder, which leads into the ****pit where there is a switch, it then leads back to the negative terminal of the fuse box. What this does is when the switch is on, the headlights go up and down freely, however if the switch is off, the lights come on but the motor remains fixed, therefore if you turn the headlight motor switch in the on position but the rigged switch off and then quickly switch it on then off it will slowly go up. But like others have experience one of the motors goes up faster than the other, and for me it has gotten progressively worse.

on my 89 there is a black headlight control box behind the driver side kick pannel under the fuse box. when u take it off there is a white box. take that off and the black one is behind it. there is a pink whire with a black stripe. cut that and wire in a toggle switch. u will be able to stop your headlights wherever u want . the only drawback is u cant have your headlights on while u have sleepy eyes. good luck

i may have im not sure, im wondering if anyone kows how the pivot controller works. I believe it splices in the pink/black wire you were refering to and then uses a rotary switch or somethng to precisely adjust the headlights

i do believe that 240SX.org has a FAQ on this. heres the link:

http://www.240sx.org/faq/index.html

go to the thing on the left hand side and scroll down and click on headlights 2/3 up

juss search around...there are many people who want to do this to their headlights.

But once again, this wont let the headlights be precisely adjusted and it wont go up all the wa y for the first solution. The second on the other hand can be a pain if you have to do it everysingle time. Anyone think that using a relay, with a rotary switch would be a viable option. Any electrical engineers out there :) ?
