Unless im looking at the wrong place, it looks nearly impossible to adjust the idle speed on the rb20. The screw is upside down and it doesnt look like i can get to it.

My idle speeds are rediculously high.. When i first start the car, it will idle around 1500rpm.. after drivinf a bit though, it begins to idle at 3000rpm, wtf? Could this be due to my atmospheric BOV?

Ive also tried adjusting the throttle position sensor, which lowered the rpms on idle, but it never stayed at a constant rpm level, so i put it back.

thanks

You gotta stop messing with things you dnt really understand.....

Your idle speed is controlled by your IAC valve and the ECU, not TPS or the screw ont he throttle body...this isnt a carbeurated car.

Warm up the car, set the tps to .45 volts (measure from the middle wire on it and ground), then make sure the throttlebody is closing properly and the cable isn't too tight. Next, unplug the TPS and the idle air controller(back of manifold, brown plug), then screw in the flat blade screw on the IAC until the idle is about 700rpms). Then check your timing, should be 15 degrees, then hook up the IAC and TPS, idle should stay the same, if it's off a little, unplug the tps and IAC and adjust the screw on the IAC until it idles right..

That's rough, but approximately how the manual says.

Actually I thought that same thing. But my neighbor across the street, who is a mechanic by profession, insisted that thats how it was done.. I didnt really have a basis to second guess him though.

Now excuse me for not knowing this engine as well as you.

Sorry, I was in a bad mood this morning...didnt mean to sound liek an *******. I apologize for coming off as an *******...

I thought the RB20 was 20 degrees and the RB25 was 15???

I actually see 2 brown plugs, one near the oil filter, and onenear the actual throttle body. Which one do i need to unplug in order to adjust idle speed?

Please explain this as if i were a robot, and you were going to be giving it directions, haha. Im that bad :\ I wish i knew more, but i dont.. help a brotha out.

The plug near the oil filter is the oil sending unit for your gauges, the one on the rear of the intake manifold is the IAC valve.

Ok, i found the screw and adjusted it to idle at a lower rpm.. but the problem comes when coming to a stop at low rpms, when you press the clutch in, the engine will die! What could cause this?

Is your BOV atmospheric?

Boost leak?

timing off?

BOV is atmospheric.. i think thats why they said it did it.

The part where it would recirculates back into the intake is after the mass ariflow sensor.. My sensor is RIGHT after my air filter.

Is that a good thing or bad thing? Does the ecu already compensate for that air, but its actually not being put back in because its running atmospheric?

Sorry for the noob questions.. bet hey, what can i do.. :\

rb20 is 15 deg, unless auto, then 20 deg. the range is actually 13-17 deg

Any air AFTER the MAF needs to stay in the intake tract. The BOV is causing your stall problem, 100% definately sure. Here is a test....Dont let the engine drop RPMs quickly. Down shift into first and allow the engine to slowly lose RPMS until it is at like 800-900 THEN push the clutch in. IF it still stalls, there is another problem. IF it doesnt stall...ATM. BOV is the culprit.

Going to test that now, brb..

but, if you arent really reving it high, then no air comes out of the BOV, right?
