My ebrake has a lot of slop in it, compared to my other 240. You cant even feel it engaging untill about 1/4 way up. Is there an adjustment on the rear brakes or somewhere along the line where I can tighten it up, or is my cable stretched?

should be en adjuster at the base of the pull handle from the front side. lift the handle and look into the console area.

i have never heard of one breaking. if it broke the brakes would have locked up long before. you dont want it too tight as they will drag causing all sorts of probs including poor gas milage and loss of power. just tighten it enough that you can pull it up a few clicks without it engaging at all. then make sure that it does engage and keep the car from moving.

I adjusted mines super tight and yanking it still doesn't lock up the rear tires. Can it be the pads?

could be the pads, a stretching cable, super sticky tires, i would pull apart the calipers and see that they are not locked up.

Hey Chris, just wondering, is there an adjuster on the rear calipers? There are adjusters for the ebrake on a bunch of toyotas I serviced, but never saw it on my 240.

oh Khoadogg, you might also want to check the position of the cable that bolts up to the bottom of your caliper. Mine was loose before and didn't engage the ebrake (rolled down a hill in San Francisco aka very very bad news) but after I checked out that line, it resolved my issue and makes for a very nice and tight ebrake. Might be worth a shot while you're down there.

all nissan e brakes that i know of have an adjuster on the ebrake handle. some have another adjuster at the cable splitter under the car. then the ones with drums out back have adjustable drums of course. i cant remember if the 240 has one at the cable split or not. i will say it is not really necessary to adjust at the splitter if you can get to the handle adjuster. if you tighten it and it still dont work then there is another issue. i would start by taking the calipers off and watching them do their thing.

You can snap ebrake cables if they are too tight. If you are trying to luck up the ebrake push the clutch in them yank on it. If that doesn't work you have other problems. I have seen many rear 240 brakes seize up and stick. I also had to replace both ebrake cables before because one was froze up and the other looks stretch from the caliper hanging up.
