my 90, 240 sx sr Auto was shifting rough and would get hung up going from 3rd to 4th and sometimes 2nd to 3rd. It would sometimes sputter and chug along like low gas. So i checked the rev sensor its good, checked my fusesadjusted the tps, it was .66 closed throttle so i moved it down to .45 closed throttle, unhooked the sensor for 3 seconds then hooked it back it for the ecu to adjust went to start it but it only cranks now.Fuel filter is not cloggedand fuel is the lines, I'm going to check the fuel pump hopefully tomorrow.

I am still new to engines and electrical my experience is with bondo and sanding, but any help or advice is greatly appreciated

does it start with tps disconnected? you should reset the computer and idle. and disconnect the tps for 5 minutes with ignition on.

Turns out the rough shifting was due to a ill adjusted TPS and the bogging down and dieing was from my fuel pump that went bad,the ill shifting masked the fuel problem.after an hour of checking relays and wires I confirmed that is was the pump, changed the stock one for a walbro and now the car starts fine and shifts perfectly.

thanks for the help everyone

theres your problem you were using the stock pump, they cant keep up with sr's. It may work for a little but eventually will burn out

yea i also ran it out of gas a few days prior

Its either been already replaced with another stock one or it was looked at because there was two different clamps on the intake/outtake lines.

Any other part that just goes?

any do you know whats the big deal with red top engines?i get that they are from japan where the black tops dontbut the blacks are stock at 203 hp and the reds at 170does the turbo really make it that much betteR?

sorry for the all questions.trying to learn fast

idk much about sr's but i have heard to watch out for the water pumps. As for the turbos for red vs black idk which turbos they use but i know the black top can get a head with variable valve timing and i believe they dont make one for the redtop. But the red top is rather popular so it must be doing something right.

Just replace the stock fuel pump with a walbaro and you'll be good on that matter
