I read that the OEM actuators start to open around 7 or 8 psi, and I was wondering if it's worth it to put adjustable's on stock turbos or do they not make that much of difference?

what are you looking to do, control boost?

i believe the oem actuator is pre-loaded to open the waste gates at about 6psi, which is also known as safety boost. you can get boost jets, a manual boost controller (crappy) or an EBC to control the actuator to hold the gates closed longer to boost to your desired level. correct me if i am wrong here, but there is no need to replace the actuator unless you are experiencing some nasty boost creep, which to my knowledge is not common on this car.

No, im going to get an EBC and a tune! I was just wondering if it would be worth it to get those so that once I start boosting the'll stay shut all the way to 15 psi, instead of creeping open at 6.

I guess i was just wondering if the waste gates opening a little bit at 6 psi is something thats annoying enough to upgrade? Ive never had my car past 5 psi because of a bad turbo so I don't really know .And I thought it wouldn't be a bad time since the engine is out?

If they are working correctly they should not creep open because the EBC Solenoid will create a pulse in the pressure instead of a steady push which is where duty cycle comes into play. I ran my stockers to 23psi steady boost (which is probably the reason one of them pooped the coolant seal out of the cartridge).

Oh! Never mind lol, Ill pass on those then. What mods did you have to get 23 psi out of them?!

I was under the assumption that the most boost the stock turbos could handle was 14.7psi...I confused...

IIRC thats the most you can safely run, at least thats what everybody says. I could see you hitting those numbers on a few dyno runs but I don't think I would want to do that daily!

14.7 = Safely
23 = KABOOM

no mods, just a AVCR and an overzealous boost knob hand along with a heavy foot.

Hey Guys,
I am checking over my "built" engine for my TT before I put it in and it has (GT800R's) 2871R turbos on it. I noticed when I removed the adjustable linkage arm from the waste gate, that the gate is sticky in there so I took the down pipes off and did a bit of grinding on the removable partition between waste gate side and exhaust side to free it up. I noticed that both linkage rods were loose and didnt seemed to be timed properly.
MY QUESTION IS; Sitting on the engine stand, having the linkage rod off, how much tension should be on the waste gate....if you were to do a center of hole to center of pin on waste gate lever, in inches or millimeters or I have the equipment to a low pressure increase with a regulator, if that is a better way of doing it. I would like to get them into the ball park area to eliminate any malfunctions until I am able to get it tuned properly. This is not a stock engine, it should kick out 700+ RWHP with boost controller added on.

Thanks, Jim.
