Since this is my first post I would just like to take a moment to thank the mods for keeping this forum super informative. Keep up the good work.

I spent 6 months lurking and finally pulling the trigger on a Carbon Silver SL AWD Rogue. So far I have no complaints other than the limited packages available in Canada, but this is not uncommon up here.

Now to the question. I picked up the premium package which gives me RDS/6 Disc MP3 but lacks XM radio. Is it possible to add XM to the standard system without buying an external player? I can't understand why XM is still an option these days.

Cheers.

Hello, and welcome to the forums.

There are significant differences in the audio system options between the US and Canada. Canada gets a mid level audio that is similar to the full BOSE system (6CD, MP3, steering wheel ctrls) but less the amp and additional speakers. XM sat radio is also an option for Canada. In the US, there is only a base system or the loaded BOSE system complete with XM SAT radio.

I have quickly scanned the factory service manual, and it appears the mid-level audio has the option of XM SAT radio. There is an empty 12pin connector on the rear of the head unit that the XM SAT radio plugs into. You would have to check to see if your head unit has this connector. If it does, You would then require the XM receiver and you would have to replace your radio antenna with one from a SAT radio equipped Rogue that contains both the SAT radio antenna and regular radio antenna.

Your only option is the dealer for these parts. Unfortunately it won't be cheap. A quick scan of online parts listings:

XM SAT tuner: $245 USDMounting hardware: $25 USDSAT antenna: $90 USD

You can try purchasing from a US dealer, but I do not know if the sat radio subscription can be obtained for a Canadian address.

Good luck!

Thanks for the excellent information. I'll look into this and report my findings.

BTW: This option is much less expensive than the ~ $5100 option for leather + tech package if it works out.
