I've been wondering how to go about adding a navigation system to my car. I've found the stock nav components at online salvage yards, but I've also seen other parts not mentioned at the salvage yard website I go to(which is car-part.com).

Supposedly, to have a complete navigation system I would need: (1) LCD screen (2) Control unit w/nav CD (3) a front AND rear antenna. (And the alternative single din stereo/trunk-mounted cd changer ) Is this correct?

Here's a link to the newly found antenna(s) that are for sale on other part websites:http://www.infinitipartsonline...gid=0

Do I need the antennas?

I've also thought about mounting the Nav control unit in the center console - this would save money by allowing me to keep my 6 disc in-dash headunit.

Your Thoughts? Ideas? Comments? All would be very helpfull.

As far as I know, yes, you'd need the antennas.

If you feel like devoting the time, a dash-mount retaining the stock CD-changer definitely sounds ideal. What did you have in mind?

Do you know if the wiring is the same between from-factory nav and non-nav cars? Meaning are all the connections for OEM nav going to be there for you already?

Whether or not I can keep the in-dash CD changer is greatly dependent on how much work/money it would take to swap it with the single din stereo and cd changer. (I know right now the trunk isnt wired for a cd changer, so I'd have to run a ton of wires back to it or buy the connectors/wires from a dealer.)

To answer your 2nd question, I honestly have no idea. Truly, the only wires that I'd need would the wires be to connect the nav system to the battery, antennas, screen, and possibly the stereo if I really want the voice guide nav part of the system to work. As long as I have the connector that goes into the back of the nav system, I can splice wires on to it and connect them where they need to be (battery, antennas, ect.)

Another thing I was unsure of was whether or not the different stereos are plug and play. Will the single din stereo plug right into the harness from the double din player?

OEM Nissan stuff should be interchangeable regardless of DIN size. And even if they don't, there'll be an adapter to make it work.

OK. Ive finaly got all the components for the navigation system but the wires were all cut when I got it. All the connectors are still there, I just have no clue what wires go to where.

Does anyone happen to have an audio wire diagram for cars equipt with navigation? Or know if there's one in the Chilten's/Haynes manuals?

Anyone?

I just spent a decent amount of cash on it, so I'd love to be able to use it.
