Can these cars be hyper chipped. It has 340 HP but doesn't act like it.This was a weak point in all the reviews about this car.A whole lot of HP but should take off faster and doesn't.Any ideas how to improve the pop off the line?

You are probably out of warranty, so you'll probably have to pay for it, but go to the dealer and have them perform the update. It will help quite a bit.I forgot what it's called, but maybe someone else here can volunteer the info on what it is.

Take it to the dealer and get a price for ECM/TCM reprogram/replacement. While at it request for the a new throttle pedal assembly. These changes have so far fixed the hesitation/delayed issues that hampered the early '02Q

Well that was a bummer. I called the infiniti dealer and they said no update is available for the ecu unless the check engine light is on?

The newer 4.5 is pretty stretched as is, meeting current emission requirements.

It is creating as much if not more torque than the 90-93 with ecu reprogram so not much left..........the extra HP came from retuning the runner lengths [shorter] to 6300 rpm instead of 5700 as the older engine was. Plus reducing friction with bucket lifters and less piston skirt and narrower bearings.

Study how the new M45 gets such improved acceleration with the same weight and engine..........tweaked rear diff gearing and sucky gas mpg.

Also under the new SAE rule the engine might be rated at 325-330 HP.

That's not true. Read the particular ITB quoted in previous posts. Perhaps your VIN falls outside the range, so in that case you already have the update.

Your friendly Infiniti dealership didn't know what they're talking about.Print out and take these two ITB: ITB-020-048 (ECU/TCM replacement) and ITB02-040 (throttle pedal assembly).

TCM p/n is found using Consult II, once identified either they have to replaced (old version) and/or reprogram (updated version) before they can reprogram your ECU. Without extended warranty, you're talking about close to $900. But it's worth the dough.

Your 2002 is not that old, I'd call Infiniti directly or go down to the Infiniti dealership and see if you can talk to them, find the service manager, let him know our going to have this car for a long time, you need a "long term" place to service it and really want the updates done via the service bulletins....or see if your call to Infiniti does it. Don't take no for an answer.

Sometimes a slick tongued devil can persuade the Infiniti Zone Manager or Zone Technican to supply the modules as good will. Then you must find the labor money so the dealer at least breaks even.

How many times have dealers heard promises of future work only to never see the owner again................common lie to get something.

In Japanese, zotohin means ‘gift’ while zowai means ‘giving a bribe’ and shuwai means ‘taking a bribe.’

3 words to understand.
