The topic pretty much says it all. I've found a factory navigation unit for an 04' coupe at a local junkyard for a very reasonable $500. The unit comes as a complete stack integrated with the climate control and BOSE 6-disc changer, basically the entire console stack.

Anyone know what else is needed to install the system, or if this is the complete unit?

I know people who have added them to their Audi's and it usually requires adding a GPS antenna as well as tapping into the vehicle's gauge cluster to get data from the speed sensor. Is a similar process required in the Infiniti?

You need to replace the main harness and PCM...very involved. Do a quick search, you may find a post that discussed this a while back.

Some excellent after market units at half the price. Some can fit the same location with a little work. I run a Garmin 2650 myself, and can remove it and use it in other cars very easily. But it looks almost stock sitting on top of the cubby opening.

Couple of questions....

1. What "navigation unit" are you referring to? Is there a seperate controller aside from whats in the console?

2. When you say I need to replace the main harness are you referring to the main engine wiring harness? And why does adding NAV require replacing the PCM?

Usually adding a NAV system is a relatively simple plug and play type thing. I'm suprised that it requires a good deal of rewiring and/or adding components. Perhaps this job is beyond me, I don't really feel like tearing apart the entire dash on a brand new car.

In the G35, there is a DVD-Rom unit that is located in the dash above the glove compartment. Models without Nav have a cubbyhole in that space.

And yes, there is at least one person who has done this and all said and done, he said you'ld be better off buying a car with it already installed. The wiring harness is a different part altogether and does not allow a simple plug and play install.

Sun of a....

Well, I guess I'll take the $500 and buy a portable Pioneer system or a Garmin.

I'd say an interesting project would be to try and use the pop-up LCD housing and either use the existing screen to display or add a touch screen LCD in it's place and add an aftermarket NAV unit capable of using said touch screen. It's at least an alternative, but does present it's own challenges as well.
