My '03 Max doesn't have Keyless entry and its a feature I really want.

I've looked into just adding an alarm, but its either pay 200 with install at one of the local shops, or buy one online and spend several hours getting it installed. Either way, thats alot of splicing into the factory harness, extra wires, etc. To top it off, its a bunch of features I really see no use for. Nobody pays attention to alarms these days, and if they're going to steal your car, they will just drive off with the alarm going, or pop the hood and cut the thing out.

I'd much rather just have factory keyless. It does what I need and fits right in with the car.

Does anybody know what all I need? Is the harness already wired for the keyless and I just need to install the module a relay and a fuse or 2?

Anybody know where I can pick up those parts online? or is a junk yard my best bet?

Any other nice features that could be transplanted from an SE to my base with little installation time?

most of the time the car comes with it already pre-wired. your best bet is to go to the dealer and speak to them about it. the dealer should be able to get you the remotes and program it for you. keep in mind its probably not going to be cheap. the remotes themselves are anywhere from 40-60 dollars per remote plus programming labor.

I think that almost all Nissans that year came with keyless entry, especially the Maxima. What I would do is call the dealer and find out what remote you need, you can do this usually by giving them the VIN off the car and they will tell you a model number for the remote. Then just get one off ebay and look in the articles section on how to program it, it is very simple to do.

If I am wrong about that, the only thing I remember that controls the keyless/alarm is just a control box in the trunk. I have a '98 so the location may be different.

Well I know for certain in the relay box (passanger side under hood) There is nothing in the spot for keyless entry. There isn't a relay or a connector. I would assume that either the car doesn't have keyless and isn't wired for it either or this just wan't needed, but the cover is labeled for it anyways but the car does have keyless.

Try this link for the keyless control assembaly. My 01 max has keyless, but contains nothing in the relay box either.

But that is the keyless control from a '93. I'm sure after 10 years they use a different part.

Correct. That keyless entry module is for the 3rd gen GXE-only keypad style keyless entry like this:

Well I did some searching. Turns out my Max has keyless as you guys suggested it might. I did some reasearch and programmed the Max with my G35's key fob using these instructions:

<quote>I recently had to replace my remote, but I was unable to find anywhere on the Web the instructions for registering the remote unit with the car's computer. I eventually obtained the following instructions from an Infiniti Dealer and I have posted them below.1.Get in & lock the doors2.Insert the key into the ignition 6 times within 15 seconds3.Hazard lights should flash4.Put key back into the ignition & turn to Accessory5.Press the master door lock (on drivers door arm rest) unlock/lock6.Hit the lock button on the remote7.Hazards should flash8.Pull key out and open the drivers door and then close it 9.It should be set

These instructions worked perfectly for me. If you have more than one remote, I believe that you repeat step 6 for each remote before performing step 8. However, I have not tried registering more than one remote.

It worked and now both my Max and G lock/unlock with 1 remote. LOL

Anyways. I ordered 3 key fobs on eBay for about 20 each and will have a pair or remotes for both my cars.

Thanks guys.

Wow, I can't believe I am the only one that suggested something as simple as that. Just shows how easy it is to think inside the box and not look at the more simple things. I'm just a simple guy I guess.. haha..

I'm glad it worked, and without having to shell out the cash for a whole unit too.
