Adding another ''door handle'' to the interior of the driver side door?

Out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about adding another handle to the interior of the door? The only handle now is the vertical one with the side mirror controls built in, right in front of the window switches. But in my old Versa there was that cutout in the armrest, about near the middle of the door instead. I kind of liked the position of the cutout handle in the Versa, especially during a windy day. That cutout handle was easier to maintain control of the door in case a strong wind tried to rip the door wide open.

That won't be simple on a gen2 unless you want to modify the upholstery to make a pocket. My best suggestion would be an add-on positioned above the arm rest, the A-pillar grab handle from a Titan might work well. The problem with that is that it won't have any support if you simply sink it into the door trim panel. Drilling some captive nuts into the sheet metal underneath would probably be necessary to keep it from gradually cracking the trim panel.

Interesting idea. I assumed I would have to do some drilling on the door sheet metal so I don't just rip off the panel one day. Thanks for the idea. This might actually be what I'm looking for or something very close to it.

Well, you got me thinking about handles and there had to be a better option. This one is only 16mm deep and won't interfere with the window, takes a round hole in the sheet metal, and will still let you use the armrest for an armrest. It's metal with black rubber over it, so it will probably last forever.

PS - PlastiDip sells a camo tan spray if you have the tan interior and don't like the black.

I got the black interior so it wouldn't be a problem. A recessed handle would probably be better since like you said, it wouldn't interfere with the armrest. But I drive mostly left handed so it shouldn't bother me too much. Thanks for the second suggestion. Now I just gotta see what I can find in my neck of the woods but at least you gave me multiple options.

You're most welcome. I do too, but on the highway it's always cruise on with hand at 8 and elbow down. Having something blocking the armrest on a long trip would drive me nuts. But to each his own, happy motoring!
