Hey, I searched and couldn't find anything that directly related to adding an ABS to my 240. I'm assuming it's possible, but what exactly would be needed? There's a computer unit that contols the breaks, correct? What else is needed, where would I find such an outfit, and how much work would it entail? Thanks.

While I've thought about doing this before, I'm not sure what all is needed. I just assumed the whole brake system would be self-contained so swap everything from the master cylinder down to the calipers and rotors (because they ARE different) and you should be good to go.

By the way, this is the most ridiculous thing I've read since "We're in Iraq for oil." --"Let me hear that roar of the N1,Your little B-series' done.Feel the torque as I drop the clutch. My KA got the power that you can't touch."

I'm not sure if cars that weren't ABS equipped can be retrofitted. I don't think the wiring exists to make it a plug and play ordeal.

But parts that would be needed to amke it work are as follows:ABS UnitABS Computer (mounts behind the interior panel in the rear driver portion of the interior)Front ABS calipers and bracketsFront ABS RotorsRear differential housing (ABS diffs have the ABS sensor at the input shaft)Front ABS sensors (one for each wheel)Front ABS hubsABS driveshaft

That's a lot of crap to source out. Not to mention the rear ABS sensor works best with the VLSD. Second is since I'm fairly positive the wiring doesn't exist, you'll have a tough time retrofitting the unit in. Unless of course, you make and route the wiring and make it interface with the stock wiring setup.

In short, I think it's not worth the effort and cost to add the system in when ABS really isn't that great anyways. Plus the S13 ABS wasn't the best ABS system created (as seen by the consolidation of the rear ABS sensors into one on the input shaft which doesn't detect wheel slippage very easily). Also the added weight of the ABS unit is insane (the unit is one heavy mofo)

YOu're wasting your time trying to retrofit ABS to a car, you'd spend far more than even a nice set of upgraded brakes would cost you.

You could do it, like tenkawa said, but it'd be such a pain to soruce everything from the sensors, to new rear axles(with the rings on them!) etc you'd probably be looking at over 2500 dollars in just aprts...I'd take the money and invest it elsewhere..like good tires to help you stop better, or a brake upgrade if you already have sticky tires.

you'll quickly rewrite that when a GS-R with I/H/E wastes you top of 2nd and into 3rd dude...

but back on topic-

Just get a better brake upgrade, and some sticky tires, ABS wouldn't be worth the effort IMO.-Chet
