Do I tap into the left front pos and neg (Brown wire and Yellow wire)and right front pos neg (Black wire, Yellow wire) before the amp at the rear of the car with my line level convertor? These are all OEM amp inputs from OEM headunit going into a converter and into a cadence amp to power subs.

Doing the install this weekend so any help is appreciated. All I'm trying to do is add an aftermarket amp and two 12s to the stock system.

Without a cleansweep(or similar) it will still decrease the bass as you increase volume. Anything above half volume and your two twelves will be non-existent--turn the volume down to 1/3 and the bass will be over-produced.

This is just my understanding of the sytem gained through my efforts to research the options of our sound systems. I could be totally wrong...

Are you referring to the 03 M45? I did a sub install and sounds awesome. I tapped into the sub wires coming from the bose amp. I am using a rockford fosgate mono amp with settings at 0 db gain on boost and gain control set at 50% cutting off at 100 Hz and it just slams, only running @3oo watts.

No it's for an 04 M45 but I assume the wiring is the same as the 03.

03/04 will obviously be the same, but if you are not leveling the source then you are losing bass as you increase volume. All BOSE systems do this and our cars are no exception--this is the reason that companies make units like the JL cleansweep.

I guess it all depends on what your ears want hear.

the signal is clear before it enters the amp. The amp is what makes the wonky losing bass thing as you increase volume.

Hmm, I thought that it was the Bose technology integrated into the HU--in our cars I thought it was actuallu near/in the tape deck. If what you are saying is true then there would be no need for a cleansweep or similar--which *every* custom stereo shop uses when installing audio upgrades in this vehicle.

I know that every M45 that I have heard *without* a cleansweep(as well as every MB, BMW, etc with similar "premium" audio systems) has had the bass/highs issue at full volume.

I could be wrong though.

I did a test install today and tapped into the left front pos and left front neg wires coming from the bose amp in the trunk with my schosche LOC, ran the power, ground and remote wire and everything works great.

Not sure why people make this out to be impossible or tell you to buy unnecessary gear. Now I have the bass I want, the controls still work, and since the connection is before the amp the bass doesn't decrease as the volume is turned up.

Now all I need to do is run the power wire through the car.

Good to hear. Let me know the easiest way through the firewall.

Sounds good, could you please provide specific details as to how you added this sub and what you used. I would like to add a amp/ sub also and keep everything else factory. Is the amp behind the finish panels in the trunk? Did you have to use some sort of hi/lo converter from the head unit?

Thanks in advance.

This is what I did. I don't have pics but ill try to make it as simple as i can.

I took the trim in front of the gastank off.I located the wiring from the front speakers that go into the bose amp (there are four wires and they are taped two together. Brown and Yellow (LF+, LF-) and Black and White (RF+, RF-). These wires are all bundled in with all the other ones, just look for the brown, yellow black and white wires. They are the only ones there of that color. Don't use the brown subwoofer wire connecting the bose amp to the bose woofer.

tap into the LF+ and LF- or RF+ and RF-...it doesn't matter which you choose, left or right, with a LOC..I used a scoshe from walmart.

Next, find a ground for the amp...I used a bolt on the right side of the trunk (peel apart the trim and you'll see where the bolts are..near the cpu) that was apparantly just there for no good reason. Now it has a purpose in life.

Next, I hooked up the remote wire. I tapped into the blue/black striped wire that is next to the wires you tapped into with the LOC. It's on the same harness. It's the radio power wire 12v+.

Then, run your power to the positive terminal and hook it up to the amp, along with the rest of the wires and....that's pretty much it. Hook up your subwoofer to the amp and test it out.

I don't know how to make it any simpler than that. I haven't run the power cord through the firewall yet, but theres a grommet on the passanger side that looks to be the only way through, unless you drill your own hole.

good luck.

I intalled this today. The right up was helpful. To get power from the battery to the amp I ran the cable through the trunk and down between the seat and C pillar in the drivers side, then all the way up to the firewall down the side of the car under the carpet the panels just snap off with a little tugging.

To get through the fire wall there is a large rubber grommet on the drivers side above the fuse panel down by the parking brake. If you go under the hood you will see it, (the one with the large bundle of wires), tug it out some and you will see the opening run the wire there and then across the firewall to the battery. Good Luck.

Now my problem with the my install is that I have too much bass all the time even at "0" volume I have the subs just blaring. The only way to turn them off is to turn the audio off completely. I tried all the audio settings and nothing will turn the subs down. Everything is wired as above I tapped into the wires attached to the large black harness following the colors mentioned above. Does anyone know what is going on.

Here's the best link I have ever found regarding upgrading the M45's audio system. It's a custom install with lots of pictures and painstaking details

Enjoy.
