I am looking into adding a rear spoiler to my '08 G37 coupe. From what I have researched there is drilling involved. This in itself is not an issue, but I would like to know the right way to do the prep work, etc. Is there anyone who has done this, and where is a reputible place that can supply the spoiler with a truely matching factory color?

On my Chrysler I went with a spoiler from these guys:

I found the spoiler to be very well made and fit like a dream. I had it installed since I was too chicken to drill holes into a perfectly good trunk myself. That said the job looked easy. Basically the kit comes with a template that you use to located the holes to drill.

Basically the color match was excellent and they match by using the number provided by the manufacturer.

Welcome to NICO!

A few members have added spoilers to there Gs. I know the member Gwoods did it last year. Post up in the G-series General Chat section and ask him.

Feel free to look at the G-series FAQ (link in my sig). There may be a how-to on it...

I just bit the big one and had Infiniti install mine. I had just bought the car and I wasn't about to let someone put on a spoiler that I would be unhappy with. Perfect match, perfect fit.

I learned the hard way with my Z28. Bought a cheap aftermarket spoiler and I was really unhappy with it. It didn't fit good and rubbed the body wrong.

Just my $.02 worth.

I actually would have recommended to have it done at the dealer. Techs at the dealer usually do at least one a month, and know the procedure. There is a template, so Installation is simple, to a professional at least.

Thanks for the input and opinions. Seems to me that when working with the aesthetics of car like this, it would best left to a professional. Ultimately, if there is a problem they would have to take some responsibility.

I have done this... It is very easy... make sure you have the proper drill bit... Also be careful when you put the screws in that hold the spoiler to the truck... I dropped one inside the truck lid and took me like 3 hours to get it out!

I used masking tape to tape the markers to the truck lid... this way it won't move... also you need to do the drilling with the truck open if not you will drill over the seal of the trunk and then when it rains it will leak into the trunk..

also the G's are pre-wired for for the spoiler so you just use the wire that is their.

I got my spoiler on eBay.. and very happy!

Again all, thanks for the info.Upon rethinking this, seems like a piece o' cake. I'm a Journeyman Tool and Die maker, Tool engineer/designer, and engineering manager. Drills, and accuracy don't bother me, but the idea if drilling into my brand new $40K car does create some trepidation. The string that was referenced is quite helpful, but where is a good supplier to get the spoiler from?

The secret to doing this right the first time is A matching your color code and B have 2 friends to help you measure measure measure measure before you drill anything.

We made a paper template of the trunk lid and marked our drill spots on it. Then two people held it over the trunk while the owner of the car did the drilling. Drill a small hole first and then drill the right sized hole. Use a sharp new drill bit designed for metal, drill slow let the bit do the work.

Good luck!

If you were in Phoenix I'd come over and help you

I've done it on my altima, it's pretty simple, I did not even measure, I just went by eye.

I put my Nissan emblem back on, wetsanded the nasty paint job, and now it looks OK. I'm getting a set of 17"s for it in the next couple weeks, can't wait to get a pic with both
