Well, when I have the bass cranked up, and the volume up, I have some popping going on....... Its fine if I keep it down, but Id like to have something with a little more punch, without taking up a lot of room and I really dont want to add extra amps and all that crap....... When it comes to setting this sort of stuff up, im pretty much illiterate....... I just want a little extra loudness, and I dont care if people in the next county can hear me........

Id like to keep this under at least 200 if possible....... Also, id like to keep things inside pretty much the same (ie the same bose head unit........)

If you dont want to add an amp and a sub, there is really not much you can do for that price. System integration with the Bose system is tricky. You cannot add aftermarket speakers without changing your head unit, but you can add an amp and a sub without changing your factory setup. Basically, the easiest way to add more bass is to put a small amp and sub in the trunk and turn the bass down on your factory head unit. (this would make it so the Bose system would not have to play much bass and the sub would be tuned to play the bass at a set level.)

Do you think I could set something up for under 200 with an amp and a sub..? And could it be adapted with the bose head unit.......

Also, would maybe a better alternative be to replace the rear speakers with something a little better????

the rears cannot be replaced with anything else other than bose speakers unless you use a different head unit or replace all the speakers and add an amplifier for all of the replacement speakers. you might be able to get something for under 200, but it would probably have to come off ebay. i'd go there and search it out.

I've heard of people having the Bose amp'd speakers repaird/rebuilt and saw (heard) great improvement. Might not stay under $200, but def, won't require any additional parts.

There is a cheap and simple solution.

Purchase a powered (RS-series) 6" Bazooka bass tube. Using the line-level leads, connect to the leads to the rear decklid speakers.

While it's not terribly precision work, it does function pretty well, and you'd be surprised at the difference. I rode in AZQ45's (Jed's) car with this mod and it was damn impressive.

Cost him $160 I believe, and Circuit City hooked it up.

Thats what I was thinking........

Do you then put it like right by the gas tank or something, or does it sit in the trunk??

Put it wherever you want. I'd wrap it in "eggcrate" foam and stick it next to the gas tank.

This may sounds really stupid, but is it possible to hook up a sub from a computer speaker system.... I got one laying, not really doing much, and when I crank it sounds pretty good.......

Simmsled - Assuming elwesso gets a sub & amp cheap, what's the best place in the trunk to get the signal and turn-on?

I was thinking some how piggy back some RCA's off the rear speaker low-level signal, but is it that easy? And shouldn't there be a turn-on going to the speakers as well?

12 volt power from the battery and ground to the chassis closest possible.

<sorry for digging up such an old thread, but it's very relevant>

Rex.. Thanks for the resurrection.

I am trying to learn as much as I can about this stuff. I can turn a wrench but stuff like this is over my head!!!

Ive been browsing crutchfield, and it looks like id need one of these: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-D...avf=Y

Other than that, it looks like Id have to get some wire to hook up to the rear speakers to the converter, and then hook the RCAs up to the converter, to amp...

Am I correct in my thinking????

This can be confusing ...

The "speaker wires" on the Bose aren't normal speaker (high) level signals, they're low level (RCA millivolt) signals.

The item you linked in above is to convert normal speaker level (30 watt-ish) to low level (200-1.000 millivolt).

So since I already have low level, what the subs run on, shouldnt I be able to run speaker wires on a converter to "speaker wire" (whatever hte interface is called) to RCA.?
