I would like to revise my statement. There are obviously two PCV valves, one from each valve cover. If you add a separator to the line between the PCV valves and the intake manifold, only one of the two crankcase ventilation locations is being separated.
According to the 2003 M45 FSM section EC-697 there is a diagram that describes the PCV system. The two PCV valves are connected, so adding the oil separator to the intake location after the throttle body is good for normal load conditions. And it works because I collect oil there on mine. However, under high load conditions, such as acceleration, the fresh air line is reversed and blow-by is forced into the intake before the throttle body. This is why carbon build-up can be seen on the butterfly valve of the TB and why some see oil in the air filter box. So you could add a second oil separator to that location, but I am not sure if the separator would work with bi-directional air flows.
