I bought a map light and bracket from a 2000 Xterra off of eBay and added it to my 4 banger a couple of nights ago. I even wired them to the door switch so that they come on when you open a door. I used two diodes to isolate each lamp in the map light from the ground signal from the door pin switches. It's a very nice upgrade and I can see a lot better getting into the truck.

Here are some pics:

A closeup of the back of the map light. The red arrows point to where I tacked on the diodes. They're on the ground side of the map light and run to the existing light where it's fed ground by the door pin switches. The diodes are necessary to keep back light from coming on (back feeding ground) when the map light switches are turned on.

The hole I carefully cut in the headliner. The connector with the pink dot came from my junk box and is for the door switch circuit. I think the connector came from the backup lights that were in a Q45 trunk lid finisher that I tossed.

I did the same in my hard body as the king cab light is way in back. I found one for a buck fifty in a junkyard out of a car of a different make but the color matched my gray perfect. I mounted it with no holes cut just 4 screws into the headliner and ran wiring around wind shield trim. it is nice at night to have real usable light and took all of 1 hour to do.
