I'm getting a code 103 on my adaptive cruise which points to my Laser Sensor being bad (2003). Given the price of that item, has anyone taken theirs apart to troubleshoot it? I can't justify paying $1400+ for a single part for the car, regardless of how nice the cruise would be to have working. But since the item is bad, I won't feel bad cracking it open to have a look inside.

It's not uncommon for the laser guidance device to fail on the Q45 between year 6 and 10. Most folks simply disconnected the device and/or located a used replacement the likes of ebay. There's no value in replacing the device since it's cost is nearly 1/2 of the value of the Q45 itself and since it doesn't affect the working operation of the cruise control. :gapteeth:

Explain "doesn't affect the working operation of the cruise control." Are you suggesting that if I disconnect the sensor, that my cruise will work sans the adaptive portion? As it stands now, when I turn my cruise on, I get a error on my display that tells me to contact an Infiniti dealer.

Correct, many folks whose laser cruise control failed. Simply opted to disconnect the laser sensor device. Doing so still allows you to use your basic cruise control function. The dealership may be willing to do this for you if you cannot figure out how to disconnect the laser senor yourself.

Thanks for that tid-bit. I'm guessing that you're just talking about disconnecting the plug down by the sensor in order to disconnect the device. I've had it out of the car, so unplugging it won't be a chore. Since it's not working, I'm going to break into the sensor to see if I can find any obvious failure items inside. Who knows what I'll find. Sure would be nice to have that option, but having $1600 in my pocket sounds like more fun than the option.
