The Production Manager here at work recently bought a 2001 Acura TL and had to replace the battery. Turns out, when the battery of the car is diconnected, the radio will not work until you enter a radio reset code. The problem is that he does not have a radio reset code. He has checked for the code in several locations, under the fuse box lid, door sill sticker and glovebox sticker. These were a few of the locations where other people found their codes. He found the serial number, but no code. Without the code the radio will not work. We think that he can get the code from Acura by having the serial number.

Does anyone here have an Acura and had this situation? Any advice for me to pass along other than he should have bought an Infiniti?

What the hell kind of feature is this? It is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard of a car having. The radio won't work without a special code that is hidden somewhere on your car, but they can't tell where it is hidden if you've lost your code card.

Glad I have an Infiniti and don't have to worry about finding hidden secret codes for the car to work.

the code is there so a theft has no reason to steal the radio. So if the radio is pulled out of the car (complete power being cut off from it much like changing the battery) the radio will not work again untill the reset code is punched in. Many manufactures do this, and have done it for a long time. I know my old audi would do it.

My advice is to call the dealer, or take the car to your dealer and ask what the code is.

Or just put in a new radio.

This is a decent theft deterrent system.

A legitimate owner should be able to get it from a rfiendly Acura dealer.

Real theives have ways to get the codes, but the chumps that steal 'em for some quick cash at the pawn shop and such learn after the first couple times of busting their knuckles and not getting any cash for their "work".

I deal with this on a daily basis at my shop.

1) The number should be written on a card that is included with the owners manual for the car (if you have it still).

<if not>

2) You might have to pull the radio out and get the serial number off the back. Then call the dealer's parts dept. (easier if you call the one the car was purchased from) give them the serial number, and they'll give you the code. Make sure to write it down and keep it handy!
