The RLX Looks like a Chevy Cruze from the back. It even has the same proportions. High standards!
I still think it's an improvement over the tribal tattoo look, but only because that's a very special kinda ugly.
I read C&D's RSS feed on my phone regularly on my lunch break. A couple weeks ago they had a post about the RLX, and in it they sounded more excited than I've ever been about even the most exotic supercar. It kinda made me feel a bit nausated. I had to close the page because the other people in the break room were looking at me uneasily as I swore furiously under my breath.
I've never been fond of the Legend (always preferred the Vigor/TL), and after it became the RL it devolved steadily into an purposeless, overweight blandmobile with a sticker price that's $15k too high.
I love big cars, but not big little cars. You can't just inflate a midsize family sedan and succeed.
The DTS/DeVille is successful because it's HUGE, ultra-luxurious, attractive, has torque to burn, and drives nice. The Avalon is successful because it's gigantic, comfortable, dependable, and AFFORDABLE.
The RL is a mess. Not particularly luxurious, lacking in torque, over-complicated and over-teched, not attractive, not very big, and coma-inducingly expensive.
$48k BASE PRICE! What the SH@T is Acura thinking?! It's one thing to rebadge the "real" Accord and sell it with a $5k markup. But $50k will buy you a whole Hell of a lot of BMW, Mercedes Benz, Cadillac, Jaguar, or any number of other genuine luxury cars.
And this "AWD" with electric motors in the rear can choke to death on its own saliva.
I miss the Vigor. I miss '90s Acura's spectacularly low, limbo-champion beltlines. I miss the Acura that made FWD cars that were actually thrilling to drive.
All that's left of them is a shadow of a wannabe.
Oh well, maybe this will help MKS sales. Except wait a second...I don't want that at all!
Spot the difference!
