Ok, so i've asked for some help here before looking for subs but I never got to go ahead and do it due to money problems and school getting in the way. Now i decided i need the extra thump and I got some cash from christmas still so I wanna try and get a sub on the cheap. What I'm looking at is an 8inch kicker 10C84 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035C ... PDKIKX0DER, powering it with this kenwood 350w amp http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q9 ... EZCG9I0IOM, and putting it in this box http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LY ... NXNJQRLT07.

What i was wondering is
1. will this box fit in the trunk up against the back seat? I read the height was btw 11-13 or something and was just trying to check on actually clearance. If its more I may go to a bigger sub..
2. Is the amp and sub a good match?
3. What kinda thump would i get outta them? I listen to rock and rap and want a good bass but i dont need to shake my car apart or anything..
4. lastly, anything else i shold know or be concerned about?

Thanks in advance for any help!

since you listen to rock & rap, you should think about getting a vented/ported box.

That sub you're looking at should fit. The altima trunk I think can easily accommodate 8", 10" and 12" single and dual boxes. 15" boxes I'm not sure but I suppose it can fit if you have one custom done with dimensions you have for the installers.

You should also consider getting some sound deadener for the trunk area...put some underneath the rear deck where the 6x9's are, on the trunk lid, trunk floor and sides. I'm thinking that the doors might not need sound deadening, but it doesn't hurt to put some around where the speakers are to reduce vibration noises.

You should also look into doing the Big 3 electrical upgrade. You add on thicker gauge wiring to the factory points. The Big 3 is the cheaper way of reducing dimming of your lights whenever you upgrade the car audio. A better way to reduce dimming is to get a deep cycle battery for your starter battery such as a red top optima or kinetik or shuriken. It looks as though you already have a grounding kit, but adding more 4ga or thicker wire doesn't hurt!

1) The trunk in the Coupe will not fit a 12" regular market box up against the seats, in fact it wont fit most 10" boxes. The max clearance from the trunk carpet to the bottom of the rear speaker baffle is 12 3/4". You would need an angled box for a 12" based on speaker size alone. Check out Zenclosures, they make a custom box for our Coupes. I reviewed it here:
post5438957.html?hilit=Zenclosure#p5438957

2) NO. That amp is too much power for that sub. Subs peak rated power is 200 watts. Its also Kicker's entry level so not going to handle an over excursion too well.

3) IMO 8" sub is not going to give you enough low end. Step it up to at least 10" or 12" if you can build a box to fit. The 8" has frequency response from 30HZ but that doesnt mean its going to reproduce that low frequency as well as a 10" or 12" would.

4) YES. Ohms law, car electrical systems, the police.

thanks to both replies guys.. i think given the fact that 8inch isnt for my kinda music, then ill just go with a 12 inch and instead of hoping for fiberglass, ill just make a sealed enclosure for a 12inch on an angle.. thanks for the thoughts, hopefully i can get something put together when its a little less frigid in the dirty jerz..

Where in Jersey you from? I have measurements on the Zenclosure, you might be able to tweak it just a little to fit an angled front and drop a 12" in there.

im in somerset county, Hillsborough if you know it.. I decided im gonna try to buy an infinity reference 1262 1200w max, 300 rms, DVC, and yeah i was trying to figure out how to do it and i was able to come up with a rough sketch of what i'd need to make it a good angled box. I wanna try to match the back to the angle of the seats and then have the front angled enough to fit the 12 with enough mounting depth.. the only problem becomes finding someone with a CNC router to cut holes for me since i got no tools at home... Im good with wood (no pun intended), but I just dont have to tools at home lol... may have to go bum style and try to go back to my HS shop teacher and try to borrow his tools haha

and my current measurements are, a triangle 11 H x 11 Base x 16 in Long and the hyp. comes out to 15.556inch, and then id extend it out in the back 1 or 2 inches like adding a rectangle adjacent to the height of the triangle which would be 11in H x 1 (or2) in Base x 16 in long, which may be modified if i match it to the angle of the back seats.. So im wondering if i should go up to 11.5 inches in height or not...the box with 1inch extra in the back comes to .662 ft^3 volume, and for every inch in the back extra it goes up .102 ft^3.. also this gives me a total depth to mount at 7.778 inches where the mounting depth for the infiniti is ~6.43 inches, so i think im good there..

any thoughts?

Ok so you are going to extend the back so its like a big "ramp"? That will work, just hope that you dont run into clearance issues with mounting depth.

What is that CAD or something?

yeah basically... i could leave it as just a triangle too but i figured id extend the back a little bit so that i could increase the volume a little bit to try and get a more boomy bass even though the box would be sealed.

And with the height and base being 11.5 inches each the pythagorean thrm. says the flat piece should be 132.25+132.25 = sqrt(264.5) == 16.26 inches and since its a 45-45-90 triangle, if i take half that length, then thats the depth between the 45* angle and the hypotenuse so i should have 8.14 inches of depth to mount if im calculating right...

I used google sketch up, just downloaded it and played with it for 5 mins and figured out how to draw, its a pretty easy tool to make basic mockups in I think..

Im sure your numbers are good, just keep in mind that 8.14" is from the middle of the speaker opening. You have to take into account that the basket on the sub might be wider than most others. If you were to have an issue, it would be at the bottom of the box. See if you can get onto the manufacturer's website for some more accurate measurements of the sub and basket, they might have a diameter listed for the back of the basket which will help a lot.

Sounds like you have your head on straight though with the woodwork, good luck and post pics when its done!

yeah very true, good call.. i checked on their site and it didnt say anything i didnt know already, so no measurements on basket.. (http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/prod ... Region=USA), but from the picture i dont think i should have a problem since i got about 1.5 inches buffer in mounting depth so hopefully i wont run into issues, and if i do i can always make a spacer or something... I might cutout the hole more on the top half instead of right in the middle so that way i get a little bit more room as well... thanks for the help beasy!
