Antone know where I can find nissans own statement for timing chain rattle and removal of guides. I'd like to print it off for my mechanic if possible? Or atleats if there is like a file or case number that you have.

Thanks for any help.

Hmm I'll prolly have my mechanic do it and get opinion on the timing chain while he's at it and see if anything extra needs to be done.

I'll just get the ones taken off like in the link

Thanks

i was in a post about the same topic and the guy had just removed top one and said noise was gone. but if you are going to have it done why not do both and be done with it.

that link is done on s14 so it may vary a little from 89-90 s13 so let your mac. know that the pic. might not be dead on.

I do have a 95 s14, so I have a DE. So I'm guessing it should be the same. Ok guys, its now or never! I printed out the instructions in the link. So going by it, my mechanic is only suppose to remove the two guides, and leave the lower timing chain guide right?

To save any confusion the lower one is the longest/biggest out the 3 correct?

Also after doing this are there any drawbacks, say when your racing or pushing the car hard?

Like I said lol, its now or never and getting it done tommorow (thurs)

Thanks again for all the help, and I'm hoping everything goes well

i pulled my valve cover off today getting ready to do my chain and the top guide was sheered off and just sitting on the chain. It had been liem that for over 1500 miles. I removed it and the noise is gone

I can get you what it says, and the number tomorrow....

I posted the jist of it here once before, but basicly both upper chain guids (the top one and the one on the right when looking at the car from the front) can be safetly removed...

Kool I would greatly appreciate it. I'm scheduled to go the shop at 9am, so you probably won't have the info then. Like I said though, I'm bringing the instructions so as long as I remove just the two guides in the how-to I'm safe? Chain won't come off or skip?

Also is the lower guide that isn't supposed to be removed the long plastic lookin piece on the right?

yeah thats the lower guide...I dont get to were I can look up the info untill like 1 ish... Ill post it up anyways though...

you can see the 2 guides on the top chain... on top, and on the same side as the exauhst manifold(drivers side) both are held on by like 10mm IIRC The tensioner keeps the chain tight, the guides simply keep the chain from flying out to far and hitting the cover....Nissan says you dont need either top ones, just the tensioner so....

Edit: Its tomorrow and I couldn't get into the computer lab at school, My class mates are idiots and they dont let us in durring brake anymore
