Is the an alternative to expensive OEM fluid?

Not a good permanent solution.

I always like to use what is correct but thought there might be an aftermarket exact equivialnt

nothing usable is lower in cost. There ARE some alternatives if OEM is unattainable. I will not make broadcast recommendations except to use OEM, carray a spare can or two in the trunk

reason theres no aftermarket alternatives because nissan was really the only one to make this kind of suspension until maybe 5 years ago or so.

The active fluid is classed as "hazardous", and therefore can't be imported to Australia. (I have no choice but to use an alternative)

There is one available here, but I guess it doesn't matter to you, as you are in the US.

I tried using an alternative mineral based fluid bu the viscosity was too high and the ride height topped out

There is a small leak in the rear of the car that has already cost me about $200 worth of OEM fluid.
