I did some searching but didn't find exactly what I was looking for...so, here we go. These may be questions that Robert and Wes need to answer as they are likely related to CU reprogramming.

The active suspension system appears to use a combination of its own control unit with a couple of internal computers, plus connections to the TCU and ECU. IN searching through a bunch of stuff I received from Keith (texasoil), it sounds like the active control unit does most of the thinking on its own. I am just wondering if anyone can explain how the relationships between these components work.

If I buy a 9496 TCU so I can get 1st gear start, will that upset my active? If I buy the NICO ECU, will that upset my active?

Also, Keith specifically mentions that some of the underperforming factors in the active system are related to the programming of the active control unit. Specifically, the fact that no on set up the system to recognize if the tires have left the ground. So, during moments of being airborne, the active system fully retracts in an attempt to regain proper height control. Unfortunately, the vehicle then bottoms out upon reentry.

Can the active control unit be programmed in the same way that the ECU can be? Would it be possible to go in and reset some of the parameters and how the active system reacts?

Also, is it possible, via reprogramming, to set up the system to allow more than just the 'n & h' ride heights? In other words... could I get it to drop at 60mph, then drop again at 80mph?

Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting thread, Ross...

First, the active wil not be messed up by using the 94-96 AT controller or the NICO ECU.. The active stuff on the ECU is just software that we can program in ther,e no hardware differences...

I think probably if you dont do any eval kineval jumps over busses, you should be OK...

The problem is this: With the ECUs they are basically the same as the Z32 and 240 ECUs, thus there is a plethora of information on how to manipulate them. Some of the Q45 stuff is proprietary, but the basic concepts are not really new..... With the active controller, EVERYTHING has to be proprietary, and thats assuming that its setup similar to the ECUs, meaning all the parameters are on an EEPROM, which it could be microprocessor controlled, which further complicates the situation... I doubt anyone has reprogrammed a stock actsus controller. it may be possible, i suppose if you ask nicely and buy Robert a actsus controller, he may take a look at it? However, hes working on a lot of other stuff for the Q.....

Your best bet is to buy the active controller thingy from japan A lot of paramters are reprogrammable that way, and you can also do a lot of neat stuff with it...

I do know there was a MAJOR software rewrite for the 1994 Active COMPUTER to fix earlier oversights..........whether one could use/swap the newer or old Active computer is unknown [probably].

There were minor revision from 91 in 92 and 93 before the 94 rewrite.Different numbers much like ecu.

Would be interesting to try a 93 and 94 in a good properly functioning 91 system to see [measure] any differences.

I will have to keep an eye on ebay and local yards...if I can track down an actsus control unit from a later model, I will give it a try.

Need to get my 91 properly functioning first though. ;-)

Thanks for the help Dennis.

Slowly.... been busy with other stuff lately.

I will definately update you if I find an actsus unit from a later model. I'm very interested to see what difference it makes.
