so i know this is borderline between the audio and 240 forum so mods feel free to move it as you wish

i have a 93 240 with the active speaker package. it came with an alpine 9813 headunit already in the car so the wiring is pretty messy. i found out my door was leaking when my speaker started going haywire on me so i pulled everything apart and found out that whoever installed the headunit and stuff did not bypass the stock amps in the door.

so i have a few questions. what were the power ratings on the amps in the door? i am trying to decide if i want to just bypass the amp and run my speakers off my HU or just leave that s*** in and keep the amp

second question is, if i bypass the amp, i am having troubles with making out the wiring diagrams in the fsm

i have for the connecter leading from the HU the following colours

light greenblacksolid blueblue w/ white stripeblue w/ yellow

the colours leading out of the connecter to the amp are (same order/ pairing with the harness)

dark greenblackblueredbrown

(light green goes to dark green, blue w/ yellow goes to brown etc)

what wires would i need to clip/ tape off and what wires would just be my positive and negative for my speaker? i tried searching but all i could get was the rear amp bypass which i have done already and the colours arent the same as the front

thanks guys i appreciate it

Hmm interesting..I wonder, cause I just wired up a Sony head unit last night in my 92 Nissan 240sx, got all 4 speakers working and such..doesn't sound the best, but still stock speakers..and I wonder if mine does have the amps or not..my wires for the speakers were:

Brown + Brown white stripe.Pink + Purple.Green + Red.Blue With White + Blue With Yellow.Solid Blue was my 12v Power Wire.

I don't remember what wires go to which speaker though =\..

I'm in the process of bypassing my factory amps (once I get the rest of the interior torn out).I don't know what the factory amp power rating is, but I'd suspect the alpine unit is more powerful (most alpines are around 18W per channel IIRC- I doubt the factory amps pass 10W).

Bypassing the factory amps is super easy, I did it one night when I was bored.

I left mine in, bad idea. They make the speakers sound better at low volume but once you crank it up you get static. I'm going to bypass mine and run new speaker wire this weekend.
