Active oil cooler fan operation

'90 Q45A 98k kilometersI have checked the fan operates ok by connecting it up to 12 V direct. However, it does not seem to cut in at any stage. I guess it must be operated thermostactily but I can't locate the thermostat. NE1 got any idea on how the Active oil cooling system works?Thanks

texasoil might, but active didn't appear in the US until 1991, so I sure don't know what the differences are.

There was a note in the Q45 Forum that there was a substantial reprogram in 1994.

Aussie, there's a blue relay just behind the LH (pass side for you i suppose) strut tower. that is for the active fan.Mind you, i've changed that relay and i still to this day have yet to hear the fan come on. maybe it has to get really hot. or maybe the thermo switch has failed on mine (no error code, however).

Thanks fellas,Any idea where the thermo switch is located. I've checked the relay and it seems OK. Maxnix, I recharged the accum's myself and therefore not a customer of Texasoil, so I am a little reluctant to ask him for imformation on the Active System.

sensor is in the bottom of the active reservoir i believe. discon the small harness and read resistance with vom. should be finite ~1k +/- 10dB, and vary with oil temp.
