When i first bought my 1991 Q45a w/126861mi.

Had a bad RR half axel, Engine Ping, Old Tires, and a dancing active suspension. I paid him $1600.

RR half axel cv boot torn and dirty bearings:Axel=$150.00 (partsplus)Labor=$130.00Total Bill=$340.00

Engine Ping at any RPM or SPEED that the engine was not strained(constant speed with not much throttle, the sweet sopt) not at idle or when under hard acceleration/deceleration:1 can B-12 ChemTool=$4.001 can KN engine cleaner=$3.001 quart Marval Mystery Oil=$5.006 quarts of cheap motor oil=$12.006 quarts of Mobil 1=$30.001 Mobil 1 oil filter=$10.00I did the KN five min flush with limited immediate results but it did produce some dark oil fluid at oil change.Next the cheap oil and half a quart of MMO, drivin fast so it cleans it out(and the rush). The real cure of the mid RPM range Ping was adding a can of fuel system cleaner, in this case B-12 ChemTool. It's your friend. So the Ping slowly left and now im actually running 4 oz. of MMO through the Fuel to lube everything up a bit. Last is the final oil change with the beloved Mobil 1 and filter. She Purrs.

Old Tires:4 235/45zR17 BFGoodRich Tires=$550.00Gotta Love that warrenty Discount Tires has on their work.

Dancing Active Suspension at any speed. The system was raising and lowering the two rear tires and it would wiggle the entire car. Only cool for a little while:2 3/4in. heater hoses 6in. long=free/cheapInside the wheel well the active hoses are coming from the top of the struts. One high preasure hose(metal connection to hard black rubber hose) was fine, but the other thinner metal gas hose had a black rubber hose connecting it for flexabity. This 6" flex connector was brittle and broken, holding no type of preasure at all. These are on both sides, but only the rear struts. This fix was not OEM, but the hoses are very flexible and keep a firm connection. Unfortunetly no easy cleaning possible.

With Smog and DMV fees im walkin with a $2728.001991 Q45a w/17s and she hauls with the rest of 'em.

Still some small things but really i think have a nice reliable car that will take care of me for the next couple years. A lot of that was thanks to NICO Members and that Search Button!

Kirby,Good stuff on fixing the car! You have discovered the joy having a Q, and accepted the challenge of maintaining an Active Q at that. Your Q is beautiful, and it is refreshing to see someone love their car as much as the rest of us here at Nico. Keep it up, and may you enjoy every mile you drive in your new Q! _EQwhipD

Good results, and nice to hear you're rolling smothly.

Now, do you have a transmission cooler and do you know if the timing guides were ever changed .
