Has anyone used the active cooler for a transmission cooler. I think it would be really neat to put an inline thermal switch like this

http://store.summitracing.com/...w=sku

To kick on the active cooler fan when needed (hot day in traffic)

This will eliminate dumping any heat into the ac condensor or engine cooling system like frontal installations.

The active cooler isnt that big so there wouldnt be as much of a problem with overcooling, but when it really needed to work the fan could come on an pull air from the already in place duct in the front of the car.

anyone see any problems with this, I assume I would just have to flush the active fruid out

I dont really see a problem with it but it seems like a lot of unnecessary work.. The amount of heat that the small trans cooler adds to the condensor or radiator is so minute compared to the total heat that I couldnt think that would matter... I mean you think the radiator is about 3ft x 3ft (just a ROUGH guess by picturing one in my head) and a trans cooler is about 8in x 6in

It woudl be a nice install but worth it? I dont think so.

I think it is interesting if the fan goes into neutral when flow (as measured by incomint ATF heat?) is sufficient.

I locate my coolers here, but they are passive and I compensate by shifting into Neutral at stoplights so there is no fluid shear and no addtional heat gain from transmission operation.

If it was plumbed so as to eliminate the existing in-tank cooler, I'd definitely want it mounted where it would get plenty of natural airflow - ideally, even when the vehicle isn't moving.

Thermal switches, electric fan motors, fuses/circuit breakers and wiring are all known to occasionally fail - Would be a shame if some 10 cent wire splice was responsible for frying your transmission...

I would install it in line with stock cooler, so even if the fan didnt come on it would still be better then stock. I just like it for the OEM look and feel. It has its own little air duct to get cool air, and a little fan that should not be hard to wire up. As you say its probably not worth the trouble over the B&M just thought it was a cool idea

i have my B&M installed in the Active's cooler spot, works great with an awesome fit. it gets direct airflow from the fog light area
