In many of the posts on guys who have converted their actives to non-actives, there is talk of looping the pump. Why is this necessary if you are removing all of the active components?

the dual system, single shaft pump cannot 'stop' pumping active side even after decommissioned. this is why Jared Ricci did the ultimate conversion and replaced the ps pump with a non-active model. of course this means changing the crank pulley, water pump pulley, and idler pulley as well.

if you don't do that, then it is necessary to first put active fluid in the hose, and then loop it back so that the active side of the pump can stay lubricated.

what is your active doing or not doing that makes you want to convert it?

And from what I read by Q45tech: Each crank pulley is specially made for each VH45DE. So you would have to be spot on in what your doing to take a pulley from one engine and put it on another, even then it all depends.... The original post is in The VH section of NICO.

Better off keeping the active system alive or sell the car to another NICO member who wants a Q45. Trust me a Q45a would sell fast!
