I'm ready to buy the conversion kit from Joe and say goodbye to my Active suspension. My question is how many of us have bought that kit and would any extra replacing of parts be needed? I know DR.Q converted and had problems with a pump. How about any other other things?

I think I'm going with the black and not the blue, any comments on the black that would disway me? If the conversion was done and I've had some dead accumulators for a while should anything else be changed besides what comes in the $1300.00 kit?

I'm ordering the kit Jan 2nd so I'd like to hear any conversion problems you've run into. I've read a ton of past threads but some guys from those threads don't post anymore.

I know this has been beaten to death... but why not slowly revamp the system...

If it doesnt leak it shouldnt be that bad.....

It leaks now! In front and in the back. Maint cost over next 3 years along with recharge is still way over the cost of the conversion.

Let me remind you that 9 new recharged accumulators from texasoil are about 1250.. Roughly the cost of the conversion kit...

So basically your getting an as new system for 1250.. Even more if you use factory blacks (which id recommend against). We'll could out other suspension components (upper links, tension rods, and other bushings) which youd have to do otherwise, regardless of active/standard.

So lets say worst case scenario 1300-1400 MAX to completely revamp the active suspension... Seems VERY CHEAP considering its still on par with modern day mercedes and other 100k + cars.....

Also ryan said he sent you an email.....

So even with the complete back-up system you got from DrQ with all pumps and computers you are gonna GUT an Active Q because of a few leaks .

Who are you?

And what did you do with RED?

did you take into account that you will be ready for another set of Struts @3 years?

If you got a recharge you would see the the system does "Self-Heal" and with a set of just the main 4 accumulators (now all I need is rubber for the suspension and the other 5 Accumulators) my car handles like no other!!!

once a Q45a has been setup for Texasoil recharge it only costs 100.00 per accumulator per refill!!!

So you get a fresh ride every 60,000 for 400.00- 900.00No more cost that a good set throwaway struts.

Leaks can be fixed with washer and hose replacement's and a recharged set of Texasoil Accumulators..

Theres nothing wrong with a non-active Q45c.but there's something SO RIGHT about an ACTIVE Q45a

This is reason these cars never sold well. Most americans can't or won't keep up a system of this nature.

Like Q45Tech said.

That's why the Toyota Soarer AWS\Active suspension was never sold here.

Leave the system as is sell the car and buy a base or "t" Q45

She has made it to 250,000 and now you want to gut HER

But everyone has there own way of thinking and there might be more to this story.

I don't really want to gut her, but it's $1200 for the recharge from the cowboy, $150 shipping, $$$ mechanic(because I am not going to want to change this out myself, I'm getting lazy) and whatever else in a year. Now I'm not convinced about switching, that's why I've given myself until the 2nd to talk myself out of gutting her. You getting on me certain helps sway me back. Keep it up... Seeing the new price of recharging was great.

I could still ship the old stuff off and zapp it. I know alot of people would love to have an active....I saw somewhere here 2,000 or so are still driving around...Given that it's a first gen kick *** car(I kinda like the no grill look- I don't care what anybody says)

I've been a proponent of keeping the system active and money isn't really an issue anymore. I don't know. Deep down inside I want it active,..... future maint is all I'm thinking about right now... Yada, Yada, yada,......

Twist my arm some more. What about that stuff from Japan that would allow us to adjust the hight to many different positions???.. Who was doing that?? About 8 months ago or nine or ten we were talking about it.

Good decision redman! I was watching this thread with a pit in my stomach because I now wish I'd known enough to buy an Active when I was shopping. What a beautifully engineered machine that is. Such a shame to see them gutted forever.

And to anyone else considering: Please offer it to someone else first. In not so many more years, they'll be very rare.

How much better of a ride is it with the active? Mine rides great and it's not actice. Does it get much better than that?

I owned a 1993 Base Q45 for 3years and had blues and hi-perf springs.

I loved it.

It was great the car still had bounce after a bump and would really dive while braking.

The junction @ I25 & I40 I could only go 60MPH on the Juction without starting to loose grip you could fell the car's "body roll" too.

I would not drive that bridge above 60 with my standard Q(did not have rear swaybar though:()

Now my active Q... that's a different story..

80MPH easy NO SH*T with NO "body roll" I would take it @ 100MPH with better tires

You have no Idea what it's like to whip around a turn in the city @ 45MPH and not even chirp a tire in a 4,200Lb car...

My active system turned off for a day while I had error46 an I MISSED the system.

BODY ROLL gives me a bad felling now that I have this Active Q.

Just drive an Active Q and you will see the difference. you can't really put it into words.

try this: put out 10 quarters on your passenger seat on some soft cloth and try turning @ different speeds untill all 10 fall off.

All10 quarters stay on my passenger seat until speeds reach 42-45MPH(they will slip side to side)

you can also put a cup of water 1\3 full on your dash and watch the water level move from side to side. (kinda like the movie License to Drive)

Right choice. Why disable a truly unique and special system?

When the active Q first came out I drove one down a twisty rough road aggressively immediately after driving the same road in a standard Q. Both cars were new and I couldn't really tell much difference between the two. I was surprised, as I expected some real magic.

Even with the accumulators dead the car still rises and falls Qship. If a 300LB man sits in the passenger seat the car compansates and keeps it level. Going around turns the car doesn't lean. The ride is great and I can only imagine the ride when I get the recharge. I've been waiting a while, but kept putting it off because I didn't want to convert.

I'm down to my last spare 1/2 liter of active fluid. It's going into the car tomorrow and hopefully I won't have to add anymore, so I'll toast to a better ride when I fill the reservoir.

After this is done I'll just need a new fuel pump, driver side light tan(camel) leather seat, new wood dash(I've seen the metal vinyl imitation wooden dash on e-bay), 18" wheels and tires to match. Then I work more on the under plenum hoses and stuff. That's all.
