What does is actually do by pressing the "snow" traction control? Does it essentially drive all four wheel equally or 1 front and 1 back??

I'd be curious to know as well.

I don't notice anything when I engage the SNOW switch....meaning no noise, no pull, no lag, etc. If it's engaging, it's engaging quietly.

from what the guy at infiniti told me when i test drove a G37xS with it, it cuts power a bit so you don't slip. while driving i engaged it and def felt a reduction in power immediately.

My understanding is that it starts the car in 2nd gear, and changes gears sooner so theres less torque going to the wheels, and less chance of breaking traction.

'06 M35X6"-8" of snow here in Philly and I drove 40 miles south to Elkton , MD for work this morning. Saw about 15-20 cars crashed either into the median or off the side of the road, including a DE state trooper who went off the right side embankment down the ditch and then back up to the tree line on I95.

I still have the OEM tires and felt pretty confident on the snow covered roads today. I do experience severe tramlining with these tires, but they still held up today.

Called the wife to tell her I made it ok and she asked me if I used the SNOW switch......,DOH !!!! I forgot to use the snow switch I guess I'll try it out on my way home this afternoon.

I also am curious to know exactly it does and how it affects the wheels, transmission, etc. I never received detailed walk-through of the car's features as I bought my car out of state last week and had it shipped to me.

I did use the snow button feature this Saturday with 3"+ of snow on the roads here in Kansas City. I also saw a number of cars (SUV's) in the ditch, and I felt the M35x performed great under the conditions.

I read in my manual I think that the "snow" button will keep AWD engaged up to 45 MPH, after which it switches to RWD. With it off, you're only in AWD up to 25MPH

My belief is that it starts in 2nd-feels like it-works fine. Use it!!

For best (in my estimate) all season get the ContiExtremeContacts especially in the snow!!

The "Snow Mode" switch on all Infinitis puts the car into a direct 50/50 torque split from 0-12mph. After you reach 12mph the system reverts back to normal operation, regardless of the switch position.

after 50/50 up to 12 miles/hr. What is normal operation ? RWD ? or does it still sense slipage and perform AWD ?

I looked at the SNOW MODE in the manual, it just says it cuts power to reduce slipage.

Basically there is logic in the control unit that limits throttle input and torque distribution is "locked" to make it more of a 4wd type setup. It's primary function is to get you moving. If it were to stay engaged (ie early 03 Muranos) then the current supplied to the transfer case actually causes extreme amounts of heat and can detroy the transfer case coupler assembly. Stupid heat.

Once the car reaches 12 the system reverts to its normal torque on demand function using several inputs and sensors to control front wheel torque.

i read the above post and hit the nail on head...

the car will still sense slip if need due to ice patch on road's and keep the car align right instead of going into a stupid slideways angle...
