im gonna be needing a new clutch soon but im having trouble deciding, i can get an act clutch for about 320, either street or race (6 and 4 puck) or i can get a spec for about 250 (stage 1 and 2, 3 is a bit more), i've heard good things about both, and after searching, im no closer to deciding on either, any pros/cons for either or experiance would be appreciated

thanks,matt

do you have alot of Hp? cuz if you don't, don't waste money on a 6puck clutch on a stock engine. get a more aggressive stage 1 or 2 and you should be fine. i am going to get a little more aggressive clutch since i fried mine.

If your going for a stock replacement that can hande a little abuse I'd go for the EXEDY Stage 1 Clutch Kit, mild upgrade from stock but with a stock feel. If you have more then 300-320ftlbs of torque go for a ACT street/strip. Don't think you have enough to warrent anything mroe then a street/strip if you've still got a KA. Anywho, I've heard from a few folks that Spec clutches are trash and that ACT is a very good clutch especially for the price.

I've seen SPEC clutches installed and work great, and ACt's and exedy..

personally, if you want a nice near-stock with a bit more holding power, exedy makes a very nice unit. Other than that, I have a 6-puck ACT race clutch because I am quite agressive and plan on running road atlanta a few times this year, maybe other tracks, but I doubt it(school+work=no fun for chet)

I'll say a few things, it doesnt require break in, but it does 'break in' after abour 20k, its a bit less harsh, but can still be brutal(I got the racing pressure plate, also) and its wonderfully quick shifting, unfortunately 6 and 4 puck cluthces get the names "chattering bastards" because of the odd noises and chaterring they make due to their intent(racing, on/off clutch) when drivin on the street.

-chetI like ACT and exedy over SPEC, but thats probably just because I have used both of those, but never a SPEC.

i'm looking for soemthing to take autocrossing, and no, i have no major mods, quick shifting and graby is good, but also streetable, so im guessing a stage 1 or 2 spec or exedy will work?

I have a spec stage 1 for the past 4 or 5 months, definitley grabs alot better than what I had before (110k miles stock clutch)...however it seems to make alotta noise when I am off the throttle (clutch not depressed) in higher RPMs... but iunno if it's the clutch or the fidanza flywheel.

yeah, the exedy stage1 or 2 or SPEC will work nice. I prefer exedy... my friend erics got one in his GS-R..very nice.

LIU: probably a combination, my chromoly flywheel and ACT 6-puck makes some really odd noises sometimes if its not warmend up...

Ditto on Civics91. I've got a Stage 3 SPEC in on my CA and I love it. The only thing that I had to get used to was the fact that the pedal feel is still near stock and so it seems really light. But I've NEVER had it even think about slipping and when this one goes out, I have every intention of replacing it with the same clutch.

I've only tried the ACT Street clutch (which is what I have in my car right now) and I have to say that combined with the Fidanza flywheel and ASP crank pulley/short shifter, I love my drivetrain.

I'm running 9 psi too, and the ACT clutch holds very nicely. I was very surprised with how light the feel of the ACT clutch is--kind of like stock, but a lot more grabby. (You get used to this very quickly). Overall this clutch feels really smooth.

Just from experience I say ACT street.

I've got the spec stage 1, been beating on it all day and its still stiff~! (Hah, beat that Structure). Liu, my clutch doesnt rattle at all, its most probably your flywheel, but who knows? I think the spec stage 1 is very nice, its got a nice firm pedal feeling that comforts me.

I have a spec stage 3 nice clutch. I slipped it once on a shift at 5500 rpm that pissed me off, but other than that it has been really cool. Though I Highly recomend a stage 2 for the street.
