so i recently glazed over my clutch. i was looking for something more agressive anyway. i was doing some research on line and i stumbled upon an act clutch. i was thinking of getting either the 6 puck or the 4 puck. what is the difference between the two? and also what is the difference between the extreme pressure plate and the heavy duty? are these clutches any good?

I'm not "all-knowledgable" or anything ... but i think the 6 puck disk is easier for daily driving and provides more of a firm grip. anyways that's my .02 .... I bout one of the XTD stage 3 clutch's from ebay for like 183.... its akward b/c of the pressure plate (the clutch disengages within an inch or so of pushing the pedal down) but it grabs really freaking hard and haven't had any problems with it thus far (4 months into it) ... but, goodluck.

i think the 4 puck is unsprung. but maybe, and im pretty sure this is true, you can get it in a sprung model.

people do use unsprung 4 pucks in their street car, but thats if you want the most chatter of all time... i wouldnt mess with anything unsprung in my street car.

the difference between six puck adn four puck is surface area... Now ive been outta school for a few months so i dont wanna **** this equation up too much, but i believe the standard equation for force is

Force = Pressure / Area

but it could also be Pressure = Force / Area, but im pretty sure its the first one. Either way these are just arbitrary terms, and the only important part is the division by area.

since it is division by area, and a four puck has less surface area than a six puck, the same pressure plate will provide a greater clamping force.

so with all that said, with the same pressure plate the four puck will grab harder. But you dont necesarily need all that force either. you could get the extreme duty pressure plate adn the six puck and maybe get the same clamping force. but if you were looking for balls to the wall clamping force, the four puck and the heavier duty pressure plate (the extreme) would hold the most horsepower.

how much power are you looking to make. i too have the xtd stage three because it was 142 shipped. its way too much clutch for my power and i love it. honestly, if you got the dough ge the six puck adn the heavy duty pressure plate, it will stil have a harder thans tock pedal feel, but it will hold way more power than you wil make unless you are KA-T
