I'm just curious as to whether anyone has installed plexiglass/acrylic/polycarbonate windows on their 240, or any of their cars for that matter. Ive seen it done on race prepped cars, but wonder if it can be done by the enthusiast. The reason I ask is because for the work I plan on doin to my car, and the fact that I live in a HIGH crime area, it would be nice to have some sort of insurance. Imagine that, someone tryin to bash in your window with a crowbar, and it bounces of with the alarm blaring, while hes stands there with this look on his face like,

Anyways, does anyone know of companies that make plexiglass auto window replacements, or how hard it would be to get custom made? and yes, I realize that it may/may not be DOT approved....

expensive and difficult to maintain. they'll scratch and you'll spend a while cleaning them up.

This is interesting. I'm in NYC, and simple smash and grabs is by far the most common thing I see...heck it happened to my friend just last week.

I assume that this would have to be a custom job to get the correct shape and curvature of the acrylic, as i've never heard of this, but then again i havent been around cars for too long. I assume this would be expensive too, but hey we've only got 2 windows to swap, unless you wanted the rear quarter windows(hatchback)

I figure to solve the 'easily scratched' problem couldn't we just invest in some professionally installed outer window film? Sort of like a clear bra, but for windows? I'm sure there's something like that on the market.

Yeah shaping the lexan is expensive and time consuming.

When you get dirt under the film, and see the dirt start swirling your lexan, you'll understand why they're not all that great a solution to your issue.

hide them parts in places like your glove box or make covers for the stereo area of the console, etc. if you leave stuff like that out, you're asking for trouble.
