after an hour lunch, i pull out of the driveway to make a right turn. i look left to see that there are cars coming but instead of waiting i chose to take the right and beat the oncoming traffic. funny thing is, the car picks up and i'm at around 5K and i ease my foot off the gas but the rpm remains at 5K for at least about 5 seconds or so before dropping...

what gives with the lag and has anyone else experienced something similar?

Its called, the drive by wire system. Love it or hate it, you have it and you'll have to deal with it.

Could also be a result of your emissions system. When taken up to higher RPMs and then let off, the computer will often hold the RPM's high for a few seconds to ensure a cleaner burn and better exhaust emissions numbers. this occurs on most cars these days.

This has happened to me twice. I'm not sure what the cause is. I am not able to repeat it on command. When it occured, i switched to manual mode and back to automatic but it still stayed at 5K.... After a few seconds, it dropped back to normal. It did it twice in the first 2000 miles i put on the car. I'm up to 4500 and it hasn't done it since around 2k miles.

this happens to me when i take my CVT coupe to redline with traction control off. it only happens to me with traction control off (happened to me again today actually). i think it's pretty cool if your on a track or something and the RPMs stay at about redline. i don't know about you guys but it happens to me almost all the time if i turn off traction control and floor the gas all the way (let it stay at redline a couple secs with CVT) and then take your foot off the gas and it just stays there.

It happened to me a couple times with traction control on. It happened both times when I was taking a right turn, spinning out quite a bit in the snow but suddenly gaining traction on a bare patch of pavement. The car jolted a bit, and I immediately let off the gas, but the RPMs stayed really high. I gots scared. Was it staying high to burn cleaner, or was it part of the TCS function?

i doubt traction control system system because it only happened to me with traction control off so far. so i guess to burn cleaner?

Ok so its funny, I reposted the same question just a few mins ago! Anyways, ya I've experienced this and always wondered what the hell was going on...it would get me worried. 1. I'm glad it seems to be a normal thing since all you have experienced sometime or another and 2. It has nothing to do with traction control since 2.5 models don't even have that! (bastards)....

Dahwell I usually switch to manual mode and downshift to gain extra kick to pass someone or whatever and it works great...

PS - I HATE WINTER WITH A PASSION! CAN'T EVEN CLEAN YOUR CAR IN THE GARAGE WITHOUT IT TURNING TO ICE!.... AND I STILL NEED TO INSTALL MY HIDs!
