i was working on my 89 Fastback the other day, i took off the valve cover, replaced a few gaskets and put it all back the way i found it. (good or bad).

now, i've moved my battery over to the driver's side of the car to relocate the air intake where the battery used to be. anyway, i put everything back together, got in the car to fire it up, and nothing happens, and i mean nothing.

no lights on the gauges, the car doesn't try to turn over, it doesn't make a sound. I haven't tried boosting my battery yet, i'm hoping it just need a jump. aside from a dead battery, what else do you guys think it could be?

thanks!

did you hook your battery up after you moved it?

Check the cable terminals on the battery.. no corrosion? Tight fit?Test them with a volt meter.. Make sure everything is connected..

check your ground. make sure you cleaned/sanded the metal where you grounded the cable to and make sure its on the frame.

well the battery cables are on tight, no corrosion, i just extended the cables when i moved as a temporary fix, i crimped, twisted, and used a roll of electrical tape (exageration) on each connection, so i dunno, i checked them and everything is fine.

it looks the battery hasn't been changed for the better part of the car's life, perhaps its just dead (the car has had trouble starting, but i didnt think anything of it) thanks for the help guys

grab a voltmeter (from a buddy if you dont have one) and test to make sure. it may seem like the right answer now, but imagine how you'll feel when your car still wont start and you're out another $100.

try jumping it or switching the battery so you can at least eliminate the battery idea then go from there.

Go buy a multimeter. It may be the smartest $15-$40 you ever spend. Use it to determine whether the battery is good. If it is good, use it to determine the location of the bad connection/cable.
