Does anyone have any data on just how accurate the MPG is?

This morning I filled up and then drove about 75 highway miles, with the A/C on, and the display ended at 31 MPG.

This is with 2011 Rogue, SL AWD, and car has about 8000 miles on it. This is the highest average that I've ever seen, and I would be delighted if this were true.

It's not! unless you were driving down hill the whole time and used the gas pedal rarely. When you start normal city/highway driving, it will quickly go back down to 21MPG where it belongs.

Also heard that the trip display is not accurate. Perhaps only on long trips when it is resetted.

I once read that a Rogue owner got 450 miles on a tank once on another forum. Boy that be nice. Anyways, once when I was on a long trip the computer's highest reading was around 34 mpg but settled to around 26.5 mpg at the end of the trip.

My point is, only for a long day trip on a highway, I believe you can reach 28mpg on all highway driving. So it can be true to have good mileage with efficient driving techniques. With the trip computer as an approximate guide on gas usage.

Rogue computer is messed up. I hate it.

So far, I found to be most unreliable compared to all other cars that I drove before. The display computer was what I fought for while buying the car and moved from the regular model with 360 option to Sl. Bad choilse.

The gas meter doesn't move at all for first 100 some miles and then all of a sudden it dives down. Same with the miles to end meter. The temp meter is somewhat accurate.

But I still like my Rogue.

well, I use a Scangauge from day 1 which is very accurate (I filled 12.39 gallons of gas today morning, it estimated I used 12.4 gallons!) The Rogue's MPG computer is off by 1.5 to 2mpg. So in OP's case, you were actually getting 29-29.5mpg. Rogue gets around 37mpg driving 55mph and 44 mpg driving 45mph on a flat road with AC on (outside temperature ~100F). so that number makes sense.

I hate this as well. for the first 120-150km the needle is above the Full mark!!! After that it drops like a stone!

I would call this situation with the gas meter as being defective IMHO.

I do get the missing 1st orange bar but this problem is more seen during the colder months, in the heatwave summer I get most of the bars all of the time and the needle usually goes down after 20-40 miles which I guess is normal. Not the 100 then the big drop off thinga-ma-jig. :gotme

No, it is a normal behavior that I see in every car I have driven.

On my rogue, I wait for about 150 kms (or 100 miles) before losing the first bar.
The middle of the tank is half the bar + 1 bar and a little bit more.
When I lose the middle bar of the gas gauge, I know that I am just above one third of the tank.

But the most important thing is to know the bottom of the gas gauge: The light comes on when I have a little more than 100 kms left. At that time, I have 2 bars left. When I lose the last bar, It is really time to find a gas station as I have about 20 kms left.

I agree with tiggy_rogue. I use an Ultra Gauge and it appears that the rogue av. mpg is off about 1.5-2 mpg high. If you want to know what is really going on get a scan gauge or an ultra gauge.
