In some cases this coverage is cheaper than regular ins. because it is primarily used for old restored show cars -cudas, gto's, vettes etc

Stated Value policies are generally more expensive. The cheaper version is if you have a classic car and get a stated value. But then they will limit how many miles you can drive it to minimize the risk.

As long as it's a legitimate claim, and you are getting paid what you are owed, it's fine. That's what insurance is for. Even if you happen to buy a car for $1000 and it's worth $2000 and you get paid $2000 it's fine. You reaped the benefits of finding a good deal on a car. There are those who commit fraud by causing accidents, or causing the loss themselves. These are not that common, but tend to be higher dollar claims. Then there are those that legitimately get into an accident but use the opportunity to make money or get something better by padding the claim or falsifying facts. For example, a person has a $200 stereo that gets stolen but claims he had a $500 stereo(padding). It's still wrong and it's still fraud. And this happens more often than staged accidents or intentional claims. And don't get me started on how people think having a headache from an accident is worth $5000. I wish I got $5000 for every headache I've ever had.

And as far as ripping them(insurance companies) off, you are not. You would be ripping us(consumers) off if you commit fraud.
