Hey Guys,

So I have been following this forum for years... now finally i decided to formally register and be a part of the nico community.

So hears an interesting story/situation.... My roommate rear-ended me in his 02 toyota Celica in the morning on leaving the neighborhood. Its hard to see in front of you climbing this one hill because the rising sun is shining directly at you, so you can barely see 10 ft in front of you.

Well, i was going maybe abt 5 mph bc there was an old lady in front of me that couldnt see as well and was just creeping up the hill, when all of the sudden like a bat out of hell comes flying my roommate in his "blue streak" and slams into the back left of my QX4. He didnt even know that he hit a car until after hitting me he ended up beside me. Talk abt pissed. So here are the pics...

you guys have any idea how much this may end up costing me? I dropped off my car at a well known Augusta, GA body shop called Kendricks, that deals exclusively with Geico, my roommate's insurer. The adjuster wasnt there since he was sick but the geico rep that was filling in for him looked at it and was thinking it might be totaled considering my ride is 149,073 miles and an 01.

OH, and how convenient, my head unit decided to jam up the CDs and now shows ERR2. FML. So i got a beat up QX, a broken CD player, and a sh***y a** chevy cobalt rental that has NO power anything. talk abt pissed.

Does anyone have any idea how much this is going to cost me? i would be really upset to let my Q go... although if anything i may use the money to find a QX4 thats 4WD.

ouch that's gonna be a lot...bumper + rear door is at least 1000 at a bare minimum....rear quarter panel is gonna be a lot too...i would think at least 3-4k but thats based on just reading previous rear end costs on this forum.

i dont think he will need any exhaust parts as the exhaust is on the right side.

thanks for the responses guys!

Theres no deductible I have to pay, it is all covered under my roommates GEICO insurance. The car is drivable, I just had to rip the bumper off the left side. Hopefully they will get back to me with an estimate first thing next week.

But what do you guys think about this: the Geico rep made me sign a form that authorizes Kendricks to recieve payment from Geico to complete the work. You think they have some deal worked out to reduce as much cost as possible? I feel iffy abt the whole situation. Maybe i should retract that sheet I signed, so that once they have a full estimate, THEN only i will authorize the repairs to begin. Couldnt I get the money that they say the damage is worth and still keep the QX4 in that condition and either sell it or have it fixed somewhere else? this is the first time im dealing with this on my own, and I already feel ive been taken advantage of here...any thoughts?

If I were the insurance company I would want the cheapest work done as then I have to pay out less. To that end they will surely demand third party parts that are always of a lower quality. When we had a mirror taken off our QX4 the insurance handled it and they got us a painted pathfinder mirror instead of the QX4 mirror, and there was a significant quality difference in paint finish - it was also several hundred dollars cheaper.

I got rear ended a few months ago and the total was 4100 dollars! And that was a lot less damage than what yours looks like. I have the topic REAR ENDED on here from about a month ago or so if you want to check it out.
