Hey guys. So I got into a little trouble with my Pathfinder. I'm pretty disappointed. I was coming home and it was like 2:30a. All the roads were super icy. I stopped at a stop sign on the exit of the freeway. I had the car in "Auto" and let my foot off the brake, without any real throttle or use of the gas pedal, and made a left turn. The speedometer wasn't even really reading any thing, that's literally how slow I was going. So I gradually make the turn, and I realize that I'm starting to slide and heading straight for this guard rail. At that point I pretty much knew I was going to hit it, luckily I was able to get most of the car away from it, but it still nicked it on the back end on the passenger quarter panel. I guess it could have been worse, but I'm still pretty pissed. What do you guys think? Anyone else have this same situation? How much to get it fixed do you suppose? I've been looking at other threads about accidents and am a little bit concerned with the term uni-body. Not like the rear quarter panels are something you can take off and replace on most cars anyway. Just mainly looking for an idea of what kind of work is going to be involved and whether or not you think it's going to be expensive to repair. I'm already pretty much counting on it costing at least $1000. I'll go try and get some estimates tomorrow. Here are some pictures.

How do they replace the rear quarter panel, I was under the impression that really isn't possible. Do they cut it out or something? Which do you think the body shop is going to want to do? I guess we won't really know until I get the estimate. Does it look like it might rust if not taken care of right away? I'm contemplating just getting it fixed in the spring, just in case something else happens during the slippery winter months, you know?

They'll find a chunk from a junkyard, they'll cut yours off somewhere (I've seen it usually along the rear door frame) and they'll weld in the new one to replace it.

I took it to Abra, they guy walked out with me and took a peek at it. Told me ballpark about $2200. He said the same thing you guys said, it's possible to cut a chunk out and redo-it, but it might be faster and cheaper to fix this thing. I'm contemplating trying to bump it out myself, putting some primer on there to hold it off until winter is over. I just don't want to get it fixed and then hit something else you know?

Now that I'm not at a workplace connection, I can see the photos. It definitely doesn't look bad enough to take and get done professionally - at least not cut out. I'd say bump it out, or have a shop bump it out. They should be willing to do it, and probably for less than your insurance deductible.

QP doesn't look like it will need to be replaced, thats fixable. I would say if you want it done right take it to a shop that will do it right, minimal bondo should be necessary, and maybe a frame jig to make sure the taillight and everything lines up like it should.

and for paint it probably would have to include, bumper, QP and rear door blend- $2200 sounds a bit expensive but I wouldnt expect $1000 thats for sure.
