First, chill out a bit. It happens, but, unless your frame is damaged, I doubt it's totalled.

Second, it was your fault, hands down. Accept it. Your insurance will probably get ugly, it happens.

Third, as far as using the fact that your car is banged up to have an excuse to mod, that's all fine and dandy if you can afford it, but make sure you can afford the fix and the insurance hike (unless you somehow pay all the fixes without reporting it, which is unlikely with that much damage).

Finally, welcome to NICO. I'm sure you'll find all the answers you need on how to go about this and "what next." Oh, and get a flame suit, I think this one may get ugly.

Why did we not call the police??? Normally it is a good ideal to call them, so they make a report.

Just a thought.

And welcome to NICO.

Well, this is just my $0.02. I doubt they will pay. One, no report. Two, the insurance investigators tend to be pretty decent at reconstruction. Three, they will deny your claim for anything. Heck my last wreck was clearly not my fault, I mean as clear as can be, and my claim was still denied. Sokay, my insurance people beat their insurance people.

Yup, a lot of things you should have done that you obviously didn't do. Now you'll have to face the consequences. Kinda sounds like you've screwed yourself on this one.

Welcome to the board though.

yeah, the police are your friends believe it or now, and once you call them if he leaves, its a hit and run, if in doubt, call the fuzz.

The only it would not be your fault is if he was the wrong turn lane.was it a 4 lane road that had a center turn lane for both directions? Because if he was at a spot where it was for the cars in the opposite direction to be then he would be in the wrong am I right?

I would file a report asap. If the other driver dosen't have a legaly registered car, no insurace thats trouble for them. Either way you are screwed because you don't have full coverage. But if you just have liability you have to fix your own car if it is your fault. You might be better off not saying anything. Its your call what to do.

if you have only liability, don't even bother calling anybody. You'll just have to pay for the damages.

Careful!! In many states, you are required by law to notify the police of an accident if the estimated damage is over a certain amount - as I recall, here in California, it is $500 or so. Which is not a whole lot of money!

If you do not report it, and the other party does (because his insurance company will require him to do so!), you might lose your driving license for a while, if the police follow up on the matter! And, your insurance company may decide not to pay and cancel your insurance.

This is a classic situation of where the original poster needs to suck it up, grin and bear it, fess up and take his lumps from the insurance hike that is bound to follow, unfortunately.

Sorry about the accident regardless! Ouch.

You should get an estimate on your car before you think about getting any kind of conversions, if your front end is that messed up, you might have frame damage, and once you have frame damage, the price pretty much goes through the roof to repair. That happened to me on my first accident, there was some minor frame damage (same spot as yours) and my mom forced me to pay it, basicaly after almost completely repairnig the car (was still a small electrical problem) I had paid about $2500, I sold the car for $3000, it was retarded, I wanted to just sell it damaged since it still ran, the engine was fine.

You might get lucky, I know when I got into an accident and the guy didn't give m his information, I found out he didn't have any. He was driving his girlfriend's car, so when I told their insurance company my story, they were confused because I mentioned the guy driving and they thought she was. So they said they'd call me back and I never heard from them again. So basicaly I had a small scrape on my bumper and he had a completely messed up door.

Alright, last thing, definitly contact the police about a report. I almost got arrested for a hit and run because I hit a telephone pole and didn't call the telephone company. I was as stunned as you. The one cop said the pole was leaning (it was right by my house so the cop saw my car parked with the damage and asked about it, I thought since it was a minor accident with no damage other than a dent in my bumper, I didn't ahve to call anybody.) Later a second cop came and said the pole looked fine and that he didn't see anything to get me in trouble for, my mom argued with the one cop for awhile, no idea what they said.
