Whats the easiest/proper way to replace the accessory belts on an rb20?

When my power steering belt broke, i took it to a autoparts store and had them match one.
I got it on by disconnecting the fuel pump, putting the belt on half way and using the starter motor to pull the belt on the rest of the way.

But now i want to replace the other belt, which is behind the power steering belt. So, will i need to cut the power steering belt off and replace both at the same time? or is there a better way of removing a good belt thats only a couple months old?

Is there a better way of getting the belts back on other than using the starter motor with the fuel pump unplugged?

Also, should i be using those special stretch -self tensioning belts?

yeah, you know, like when you were a kid and your chain fell off your bike? Put the belt on half way, and then turn the ignition to let the starter motor pull it on the rest.

FSM for rb20? i checked the ones that are linked on this site and maybe i missed it but didnt see anything.

How do the tensioners work? Ones i'm used to are a separate pulley that a serpentine runs around that can be adjusted, there's no separate pulley.

What???????

Take your car to a shop and have them replace it for you.

Save yourself the headache and hospital bill.

That's pretty dangerous using the starter to get the belt on.

Why? Fuel pump is unplugged = car wont start. It’s the Easiest way I know to get the power steering belt back on when your in a mall parking lot without tools.
It’s very similar to those vehicles that use one of those self tensioning belts where you use a zip tie and a wrench to pull the belt on.

And how would the shop do it, do you even know?

changing belts should be some what intuitive...look for the tensioners and slacken them.
i have never seen a how to on changing belts, even the fsm does not have a 'guide' to doing so.

I don't mean to come off as I'm flaming you. But putting the belt on using the starter is really dangerous. If you get your finger stuck in there your gonna lose it.

Doing that in an emergency gets you back on the road if you do not have the correct tools. But it is stupid, but OK if you don't like having 10 fingers.

Engines with auto tensioners use a special idler pulley. I have no idea what your talking about using a zip tie and a wrench.

Yes actually I do know how the shop would do it.
They would do what Carl said above.

But if your not that mechanically handy to figure that out you should probably take the car to the shop before you break anything. Not trying to flame a newb, just trying to give you a bit of advice.

PS you wont find a write up for changing belts because its like having A write up for putting gas in you car.

lol at the people in this thread calling it "dangerous"

this is a redneck trick that people have used for DECADES

you dont hold the belt there. you place it halfway on the pulley so its own tension is holding it there, then you bump your starter, from inside the car, 5 feet away from anything that moves. the rotation of the pulley and tension from the half slacked belt holds it there so when the engine rotates, it pulls the belt on the pulley

ghetto = yes
dangerous = absolutely not

Sorry didn't know about this redneck trick LOL
I thought he was holding the belt near there while having a friend crank it.
