Access to license plate metal grommets removal

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

One of my rear grommets has completely rusted to the bolt and I wasn't successful in extracting it out (kroil, pd blaster etc). I don't want to drill through to get it out. Has anyone replaced their metal grommets with plastic ones or know ho to access the area for removal?

Thanks!

Is it stripped? If not , just spray some LCR (Lime, Calcium &Rust) cleaner. Be very careful not to inhale or gets on your skin...

The LCR reacts quickly and it will convert the rust into a black metal. You can buy this nat Walmart, home depot etc...

Had the same problem... Shields spin and couldn't get the bolt out.

Only solution is to take off back hatch cover, cut access holes into the plastic in the appropriate spots and then get pliers to hold metal shield while you unscrew the bolt from the other side.

Infiniti really dropped the ball not making access holes for these shields from the back.
