So this is new to me. I'm a small engine mechanic trying to branch out to larger engines and thought that an S13 would be a great start considering there are so many options that can be used in these cars. I've built bikes and sleds but never a car.

Here's what i bought. 1990 240sx hatchback. It is completely stock (other than rims tires) with the KA24E and auto transmission. 65000 original miles. engine is in great shape, body...not too bad.

I know I'm wanting to swap Trans and engine in time but i would like some more build knowledge. I've read quitea few threads and so far I'm decided on an SR20DET red top and five speed transmission. Found a few for a decent price but that will come later on.

I'm actually wanting to get the body, drive and suspension built first. My intention is building a drift car. I've seen a few body kits that are ok but i don't want to get something that you see on Honda civics lol.

I guess what I'm really trying to get to is, is the KA24E even worth building a little? And where would you find performance parts for that engine? What is a good body kit? What are some good coil overs?

The questions go on forever. So of i could Get some recommendations, tips or help at all i would greatly appreciate all of your help.

Thank you in advance.

welcome to Nico.

as far as whether or not to keep the engine, its totally up to you and what realistic goals you have as far as power goes. The SR20 has tons of aftermarket support, the KA, not so much, let alone the single cam one.

My recommendation, fix all the broken stuff first, like electrical problems, or any rust issues; then start building up on your suspension. You'd be surprised how much fun you have with just modified suspension. coilovers would be a good start.
