ACCEPTABLE Main SR Clearances - Experience PLS!

I'm going to just cut out most of my story unless there is a good reason to explain everything. What is an acceptable main bearing clearance? I know what the FSM says, but how about for a performance build? I have one that is .002 " which the FSM says is the limit. My machinist was telling me that the turbo Honda engines he was building run as much as .0025" clearance, so I should not worry.

What do those experienced SR builders think?

I'd stick to OEM, as tolerences are dependent upon bearing metallurgy, heat production, oil pressure, oil viscosity, etc.
