ok so my accelerator gets stuck on my 92 TT automatic but it gets stuck accelerating, i took it to a mechanic and he said it was the idle control valve, whats the best way to fix this? isn't there just a screw that needs to be tightened?

Try this, unhook the accelator cable from the throttle bodies. Check each side, cable operation and throttle body. Usually, the throttle bodies stick a little when needing adjusted and cleaned. However, I had a bad cable as well. This Idle control valve has nothing to do with the mechanical operation of the pedal.

thats what im saying, cause everywhere i look they say cable or throttle bodies. i found this link for stuck accelerator but its for the Z31, idk if it would be the same for the z32 but can you help me out with that?

just go to stuck accelerator

and what else can it be?
and just to make everything clear (cause ive been seeing alot of this on my search too) my accelerator doesn't get stuck in idle the pad got stuck down

thanks btw

Your explanation is a little cloudy. Are you saying that your pedal is not sticking, just the pad is tilted? Or are you saying, that when you depress the pedal, it doesn't return?

If the pedal isn't returning, you need to disconnect it from the throttle body and feel if the cable itself is binding. Or, the throttle body could be binding as well.

ok basically i was driving and i hit the gas a bit and then all of a sudden my gas pedal got stuck down and wouldn't come all the way up after i release it. instead of the car naturally slowing down because my foot wasnt on the gas, it kept accelerating up. when i would hit the brakes my car would still keep going and i could smell my brakes burning a bit from the stress of stoping constant acceleration. when i opened the hood the cable was a bit loose but apparently i was told thats natural, but idk im not a big time mechanic.

You have a mechanical bind. Does it do this when the car is not running or is it repeatable? If it does, then try to get it to do it with the motor off. Then before you return the pedal, get out and look at the linkage and throttle body. If the cable is loose and the throttle body is not completely closed, then you have a throttle body bind. If the throttle body is partially open and the cable is tight, then you have a cable bind. Make sense?

yea, now if its a throttle body bind what do i do to fix it? is it quick and inexpensive? but i don't think it does it with the motor off ill check today when i get my car back.

yes, it's usually an easy fix. First, make sure the TB is clean. Carbon deposits can cause it to bind. Once it's clean, check the way the plate inside the TB contacts the housing. You can usually see it if it is binding. You can adjust it without pulling the whole thing apart.

Also check your PCV tubes on your intake cam covers. If they slide out they can contact the throttle linkage.
