I have Rogue AWD . When I push down acceleration pedal, RPM on tachometer goes to 4K-5K rpm while speed is increasing, but RPM never drops, until I remove foot from the acceleration pedal. In the regular transmission car, RPM is always drops when transmission shifts to another gear. But it never happened on my Rogue. Is this normal, or something wrong with my car? Someone said it’s a problem with K-sensor or may be D-sensor, I don’t remember exactly. What does those sensors do? Is it related to this problem?

Thank you

Friend123,

Welcome to the NICOClub Forums!

What you are experiencing is normal. It's part of the way the CVT transmission operates. If this is your first CVT equipped vehicle, it may take some time to adjust.

There is nothing wrong with your Rogue, just drive and enjoy!

I would pose the question to you as to when this happens. Is it entering the highway or from a stoplight.

As for me, I did accelerate a couple of times until I hit 4000 rpms by using forceful pressure compared to the lightfoot I usually drive. This is from advice to break in the engine. Well I don't do that anymore.

Moreover, I usually drive in the city.

Anyways, if I was to be in your situation. I would be rabbit starting from every stoplight. Most of time when I press harder than usual it would never get between 4000-5000 rpm's.

Even when I enter the highway, I can slow accelerate to 65-80 while keeping the rpm's between 2000-3000 rpms. Even stay at 2000 rpms and below. Trust me, my car is not in grandma mode. It can accelerate nicely to a very high speed when I am at 2000 rpms. Its a gradual but it's NEVER like I am in sunday driving slow mode.

So in the highway, you're fine. Accelerating 40mph to 60mph over APPROX 4seconds: reached 4500 RPM before dropping to 2100 RPM. FINE

But if your accelerating from a stoplight. Not fine. Doing 4500 rpms would seem like i'm redlining from a stoplight.

Like casperfun says, whether or not this is "normal" depends on how aggresive you drive.

My Rogue never revs to 4000 rpms and definately not 5000, but if I were to floor it off the line I'm sure it would rev this high and hold until I ease of the accelerator or reach highway speeds, generally speaking.

I've found the Rogue to accelerate admirably without having to rev higher than about 3000 rpms on a flat grade.

The best advice is to drive it, get used to it, and experiment a little bit and I'm sure you'll find that "sweet spot", as the CVT does take some getting used to.

Oh, I've hit nearly 6000rpm a few times merging onto the highway. Hold it flat to the floor long enough and it will get there! Redline is 6200rpm BTW.
